Can’t wait to trot out Shrout or Maurer in the swamp and have flashbacks to Peterman ‘13.

I’m still pissed off that no one on our staff made Adrian Martinez priority #1 when they took over for Butch. He’d be good enough to at least will us to wins against crap opponents like GSU.
We could have had Peyton effing Manning yesterday and it would not have mattered. As bad as JG was yesterday this was on coaches..

I think most would say
Coaching
Defense
QB play.
But you can't fix the 1st two by next week. You can at least try a QB fix.

Well summed up. I felt like the way the defense played looked like a first year HC/DC, almost like a scrimmage as others have said. Not sure who thought they'd be able to "try things" against Georgia State like it was a scrimmage, but I for sure got that vibe especially on defense.

JG is who he is, and unfortunately the early RB mishaps altered a bit of the personnel & play calling on that side of the ball I think. For me offense looked a bit better, the line did very well at run blocking & pass protection, but JG for whatever reason seemed to be in 2nd gear or something maybe overwhelmed even? He didn't force the issue, threw late often despite throwing hard and rarely seemed to read the blitz of the defense (which meant if a guy missed or didn't pick it up he took a hit). I'm not sure how confident I feel in the defense turning the corner against BYU, I think the offense can improve though. Might see Chaney scheme a bit differently and put us in better opportunities to hit big plays. Offensively I feel it's more like "tweaks" and one could be JG being benched. I'm sure Chaney is more than willing to play a different QB if JG isn't doing what he wants.

As for coaching, I think my biggest worries are Friend & Rocker at this point. Ansley called his first ever game, and Pruitt his first "hands off" play calling game...but Rocker/Friend have how many years coaching their groups and we just don't see them improving like they should be. Size & Strength are there, Fitz isn't the scapegoat. Really comes down to effort at this point for the LOS and if it's not there at this point, in game 1 of the season against a lesser opponent then it's the positional coaches you have to blame.

I don't think you can fix the issues we saw yesterday in ~6 days. Or even in-season at all. The coaches are just as disjointed, confused, and "every man for himself" as the players. 1-11.
It’s going to be really interesting because BYU might lay an egg too.

If we sneak this one out maybe the wheels stay on the cart. Lose and we’re probably starting 1-7 and maybe an interim HC.

Speaking of 11

I thought he played soft and very tentative. Or just plain ole didn’t play hard

He had good stops.if anything getting off a block was his issue I think.he had some fire to him when he got stops though.i likes it.give him some time

I think the biggest thing that stood out to me yesterday was the lack of "want to" from our players. I mean how many times have we talked about many games we won despite Butch just because he had Dobbs, Kamara, Barnett etc. I mean at some point as a player you have to have that "want to" to win and these guys just don't seem like they care at all if they win or lose.

I just pray somehow treating this game like a scrimmage was the biggest issue.
That's at least fixable.

Biggest fear, it's far more.

Lot of new on the D so it's not surprising there was struggle on that side of the ball. The fact JG couldn't keep the offense on the field is what hurt the most IMO. You mix new with gassed and you're going to end up giving up lots of points. Lots of poor coaching and definitely poor clock management, but I keep going back to JG making piss poor reads IMO. He made other mistakes as well, but damn, the way he kept dumping off rather than letting something develop, it's like he was playing scared. It's hard for me to imagine all those dump offs were Chaney's design, but I guess it's possible. I think it more likely JG just panicked, but who knows. It was an absolute wreck.

Alright boys - I had to log in briefly after that debacle yesterday. Not even my 6-6 prediction foresaw that monstrosity coming. Oddly, it didn't really phase me. I watched with some friends, observed that we looked remarkably slow and listless, but had a good laugh about it afterwards. I will say I am firmly in the 2-10 camp now. Let's be real: this season is going to be a complete disaster. Great coaches don't forget how to coach and elite players don't lose their ability to play. Something else we can't see is desperately wrong with the whole program and I don't think Pruitt survives, and probably not Fulmer either. We're 5+ years from relevance, when you consider the time it will take this season and next to give Pruitt "time..." and then fire him, hire a new coach, and let that coach rebuild.

On the bright side, my Saturdays the rest of this fall (and probably next fall!) are completely free and we're going to be hiking, visiting corn mazes, picking apples, seeing friends and enjoying ourselves! I will always love and pull for Tennessee football, but life's too short to spend it on here worrying and arguing over things I cannot control.

I jumped in for this final post and to change my log in password to something complicated that I will soon forget so that even if I'm tempted, it will be too complicated to come back. Goodbye guys! The last 7 years have been entertaining!

Oh please. So now we're saying that the defense stinking up the joint, giving up 38 points to Ga St, unable to get stops and get off the field against Ga St was because the defensive players didn't see the guy on offense come off the field with fire? Yeah, ok.

I seen a tired defense later in the game and was out of it because a offense wasn’t producing 👀🤷🏽‍♂️ Look at it how you want it.the only valid point here is they were out of position a lot but that’s the coaches fault when it comes to substituting players coming off and on the field.the overall rotation yesterday how they did it should never happen again.

Every one of the old head players I’ve seen on Twitter is putting this squarely on the players. Several saying they never needed a coach to motivate them to go out and play with pride.

Sure, coaching was pitiful but at what point does getting hit in the mouth not make you nut up and start fighting back.
Guys we’re in position to make plays early on and simply didn’t do it. Then they quit

I think you have to sit JG down and tell him he has a quarter and a half against BYU to prove he doesn't belong on the bench. But fire and urgency in him. If he doesn't come do it, put in a Shrout or Maurer. If one struggles, put in the other. Pick the one who did the best to play the entire Chatt game. Stick with that one for Florida, and if he's struggling, throw JG back out in the Swamp.

And if that doesn't fire him up I don't know what else to say about him. I know there are more problems than his play. But the team doesn't have a leader. Adding Bituli to run the D will be a huge help I think, but we need it on O too.

Let's say we only win 2 or 3 games going into November. Does Fulmer talk to say Leach or Babers and get a guarantee that they would come and then fire Pruitt. Dont fire Pruitt until you have someone ready to take the job.
