We are really good

Just thinking, but aside from depth, what specific positions are concerns? Not to single out players specifically, but what positions are a liability or just flat come up short when our 1s are on the field?
1. OL and DL, which are the most important positions for success in the SEC. Literally concerned about every single first string player on both OL and DL.

2. Hopeful that Henry T and Crouch come in and greatly improve what was a poor LB corps from last year.

3. With Thompson out, a bit concerned about CB. Sounds like Burrell is very promising but he’s a true Frosh

4. Who are the 2nd and 3rd TEs behind DWA since it looks like the big, young kids didn’t even make the depth chart.

Recon Pruitt has taught our D how to tackle?. Got my doubts.
In the last few years, opponents have ran over, threw, and around us.
I say bull **** until we see different, and not against the chumps.
We have heard this crap over and over from three different coaches. Yada yada, yada.

we beat two ranked teams, we weren’t that terrible just deficient in several spots. We were bad but the team that starts tomorrow will look completely different than what we fielded a year ago
We were God awful last year which is why we set a school record by losing 6 games by 25+ points. By comparison, the disastrous, historically bad 2017 team only lost 3 games by 25+ points.

So yeah, we were horrendously bad last year imho. I certainly think we’ll be better....but how much better?

Miami’s LT was a borderline 2 star and Wanya Morris is a prototypical 5* LT that is a ridiculous comparison

Hey dude chill out I acknowledged that our freshman was an elite recruit. But it still remains that Wanya Morris has not played a down of college football yet. Hence why I said it’s just an unknown. I hope he rolls out there a mauls fools.

Agreed.

We had trouble with the “chumps” last year. Struggled running the ball vs ETSU and were completely shut down and physically dominated at the LOS by lowly Charlotte. I know that “hope springs eternal”, and I’m excited for a new season too. But it seems some fans have forgotten just how bad we were last year....13th out of 14th in the SEC, last in the SECe.

Coach Pruitt said on vol calls: "you know, I think we are really good. It sounds crazy but you see it." I don't think coach Pruitt makes up nonsense just to hear himself talk. I think if he says the team is really good then he truly believes they are really good. This is a man who has coached some really good teams and I'm certain he knows what a really good team looks like. I'll hang up and listen.
We've upgraded talent in several areas. The pieces are there to have a good (7-8 win) season but that's assuming we dont lose anymore key players. Gooden was a huge hit for us - anymore hits there and we are in trouble. We could honestly be a top 25 team and still lose 5 games.

Good at what? Football?

Look, I really like Pruitt and I’m on record saying one thing I really like about the Pruitt hire is the successful programs he’s coached at and that “he knows what championship players and teams look like”.

That said, I’m not sure we can go from literally one of the very worst teams in P5 football last year that got blown out by lowly Vanderbilt and could barely eek out a win vs lowly Charlotte at home, to a “really good team” so quickly.

I hope he’s spot on and we see that very good team beginning tomorrow, but I just gotta see it to believe it.
Aight then, fair enough.

Here you go exaggerating bro! Stop that crap!!

No, last year's team was not Tennessee Historical standard. But they weren't "ONE OF THE VERY WORST IN THE COUNTRY"
Get out of your blasted Drama Queen mode!

We beat TWO top 25 teams. We weren't deep nor consistent. That's what we were. Okay!

Now since we've added VERY good talent along with some kids that already have experience. We've gotten noticeably bigger. Naturally stronger as well. Supposedly faster too.

I can't wait for this team to prove people like you wrong!!

I think we are a good team that everyone underestimates. BUT at the same time I feel that way at this time of year for the past hand full of years... so there’s that.

we are weak like a sack of balls. We have sucked for a decade and probably will for a several more. When the Vanderbilt coach is dancing like a clown on the field after the game,, that says it all. Aint nobody left in Knoxville that cares bout Neyland....ghost town

If we were good, we would have known the starting OL lineup weeks ago.
Just a hunch but I believe that’s just Pruitts way of keeping them competing wouldn’t surprise me a bit if a decision has been made amongst the coaches behind closed doors at OL, DL and back up qb.

I'm a little surprised that CJP said that. It's a coaching no no in general to hype up your team at all. If a reporter blows this up in an article it will become a narrative along fans. If we're weak it average people would then think we under performed. And head coach will get the heat.

They say there's a split seconds difference between a hero and a goat. I hope we get a hero.
