Gun control debate (merged)

Since you are in the schools you should know that DHS and CPS do not do a good job at that.

He does but is more than willing to take that chance , he chooses not to use his 2a so none of the government overreach bothers him .

They could do better and should continually strive to improve.
I am absolutely certain that the current system is far superior to no system at all.

Vacationing in a red state. 11:00 PM tonight I had to fill up the rental car before returning it earlytomorrow morning. Go to a gas station. No other cars there. Pull up to the pump and put the car in park, but before I kill the engine another car drives in and parks in a shaded area. Dude (moderately sketchy looking) gets out and puts something in the back of his pants. As he walks by, staring at me, I notice it's a gun. Once he walks by, I get the hell out of Dodge.

Query: Does living in a place where that's allowed make you feel safer? Would you go into the gas station in that situation? Would you bring your family in with you? Do you think that's good for business?

Can you name a law that would stop it?

I like how you qualified the state you were in before starting the story ( just because it’s a red state doesn’t mean you can open carry or conceal carry ) I don’t have a clue where you were , don’t know the firearm laws there . Lots of details you left out . My first question is was the gun holstered or in just stuck in his waistband ? ( Small details matter ) for me , an unholstered firearm is an unsafe firearm so I view the holder of the firearm the same way . Coming from “ one of the bluest state “ you should know the rest of the country don’t do things like you do or your city does , just because you see a guy say in Virginia take a firearm and out it into his waist doesn’t mean he’s about to rob the place or kill people inside the store because they didn’t have his favorite little Debbie snack cake . Props to you for being observant , to me this is a skill more people should hone it may save your life one day but , you need to fill in the blanks before I can say I’d be scared and run away or not .

From someone who probably looks moderately sketchy at times, I answer yes to all your questions. However it's unlikely you ever know I have one on me.

If something were to happen is it easier to protect my family with or without my gun?

I think it’s what are use to seeing , I live in an open carry state , seeing someone with a firearm isn’t a big deal here . keeping your head on a swivel and being aware of your surroundings is the important thing . You never know the shady guy could have been the owner the owner or clerk starting his shift Lol

I have been in the grocery line, dined at chick fil a with my kids, been to numerous sporting matches for my kids, and even worship (although I don't know who is carrying) with people who are carrying their pistol. I doesn't make me feel scared. The assumption on my end is if the gun is holstered and easily visible, the person carrying is responsible.

I would have to have been in your car with you to make an honest judgement on my concern in your anecdote.

Why? Hysteria might be contagious.

Did he have on a MAGA cap? If not, sounds like a fabricated story. You know being in a "RED" state and all.

Feel safer? No, I don't feel unsafe as it is.
Yes, I would go inside if I needed to.
Yes, I would bring my family with me.
I don't think it hurts their business.

Not very progressive of you to judge somebody on their appearance.

I see people carrying once in a while in a restaurant, store, ect. Doesn't bother me. I usually just glance to make sure it looks secure in the holster.

I doubt I'd ever open carry, but different strokes for different folks.

What is sketchy to a lawyer from a blue state vacationing in a red state? Male, white, looks like he works for a living?

I have to admit that I chuckle at the image of somebody being so afraid of guns that seeing one causes them to burn rubber leaving a gas station. Probably had to pay a cleaning fee to the rental company for that urine stain in the driver's seat too.

Prime example of hoplophobia.

A liberal lawyer, terrified of a gun, stopping in the middle of the night at a red state gas station: THAT IS SKETCHY.

Not afraid of guns at all, but I am wary of people who tuck one in their waistband before walking into a gas station. No, I wouldn't go in. Why would I?

Would it matter if they were white, dressed nice, with wife and kids in the car? Or, black, wearing gang material, with gold teeth? Hispanic, possibly MS13? White, biker gang member? When is the correct time to be concerned about a gun? Only when it is tucked in the waistband? What if a woman tucks one in her bra? Concern?

Evil's post suggest that she didn't even stick around long enough to fuel the vehicle once she saw a gun. I can see the logic behind a person wanting to carry a gun into a gas station considering how often gas stations are targeted for robbery.

I'm in a red state, currently at a Dr's office, and have a gun on me, literally. You know how many people are freaking out? None, because none of them know I have it.
