Pruitt’s Leadership

This isn’t meant to be a bash Jones thread. This is more of a pro Jeremy Pruitt thread. We can be critical as fans, as people. Both coaches cared immensely about their players. We haven’t seen Pruitt under the pressure Jones was yet, but we have seen some of Pruitt in the spotlight.

I think there are many reasons Pruitt is not only a good coach but a leader. Pruitt’s tears last year will not be forgotten by me. He knew how bad our team was. He understood the questions. Instead of lashing out at reporters he showed his emotions, he owned them and he didn’t make excuses. He commended his team for their effort.

Where do you all think Pruitt has shown leadership so far? Or are you convinced yet?

This doesn’t answer your question, but I don’t think Butch Jones cared (immensely or otherwise) about anybody but Butch Jones.

Lost by 25 points to Vandy.

I see nothing wrong with that except it looks half-hearted. Been better if he had kicked the sum bish in half.
I’m with you, he didn’t even stop the coach from using the board, he just had to scoot up a bit. Lmao.

I love the pure honesty and not sugar coating anything. I like how he's stern yet forgiving to his players. I am impressed he's seeking top assistances and not shrinking from lack of this or that. Pruitt will do well I believe, but I hope UT gives him enough time to become a very good HC along with already being a great DC. Time will tell, but my money is that he's a keeper!

glad that Coach/AD Fulmer is around to curb some of Coach Pruitt's sideline antics...I just don't want him to get too stupid...kids and parents watch the games also...absolutely do not, I repeat, absolutely do not grab players by the helmet and berate them on the sideline...keep your cool and coach them up without all the unnecessary drama to be seen around the nation...and...

GO BIG ORANGE!

It's really hard to become a head coach in the SEC without being a good leader. I think Butch and Pruitt are both good leaders with very different styles. Pruitt seems like a better teacher, which makes him a better coach IMO. But part of becoming a great coach is just having some good luck. You need to win games in order to earn respect, shape public perception, and build momentum. And we all know you need the ball to bounce your way a few times to win close games. I've seen enough from Pruitt to conclude that he has what it takes to become a great coach. Hopefully the ball will bounce his way this year.

I believe when it comes to something like leadership you can't know it unless you experience for yourself. That being said you can still read between the lines and get a decent understanding.

For me, the fact that Chaney chose UT says a immense amount about who Pruitt is. Of course, I don't have the full context, but it can't be money- GA would have matched anything UT through at Chaney. The area? Maybe a little. I believe the biggest factor would have to be Pruitt for Chaney to make his decision and Chaney must really like what he sees.

I now wish I never started this thread lol. Honestly everyone loved Butch until he ran out of coaching options lol
The unexplainable man crush many had with boy butch, is just that, Unexplainable! Far too many fans felt to be a UT fan meant they had to love, support, and defend boy butch-no matter how he effected our team. One does not need to support Dooley or boy butch in order to be a real UT FAN! Now that we have a Football Coach we can look forward to some great changes in UT Football-such as: winning again, being a feared power in the SEC, being a place high school football stars want to play to name a few. In fact, this will be the best year for our program that we've had in a long time. I'm 100% in on CP!

Thanks for pointing that out! I will be the first to Man-Up in regards to CP if he starts acting like boy butch-something those with their man crush on boy butch were never able to do. And by the way, they seem to be the same ones that had a Dooley man crush. I'm 100% in on CP, he'll do what the previous coaches just weren't able or willing to do, Coach Football! CP does not claim to be a coach for life skills, etc. We'll find out if I'm right or wrong in short order. If I am wrong it won't take me year after year after year to admit it.

I think Pruitt is capable of bringing TN back to the top based on AU and Ky but the Mizzou and especially the Vandy loss made me take a more wait and see approach. The team flat out quit against Vandy and that's unacceptable.

We shall see

Would 6-6, 7-5 marshmallows taste good enough this year?

I dunno I have heard all sorts of stuff. Gundy would have been nuts to come here. Mullen or Leach would have been the best hires IMO maybe next to Pruitt and the jury is still out. That Gruden stuff was embarrassing.
I would have LOVED to have Leach. I was truly heartbroken when that deal fell through. Currie finally made a smart move and was fired the next day. LOL only at TN

So should CJP proof to be another bust (likely based on the end of last season) will he be on your rant list?

Hopefully CJP turns things around and wins 7 games this year but as it stands now UT and PF screwed the pooch by passing on CML.

To answer you question, as to how I'd view CJP if in my opinion he isn't the coach I thought he was, nor the coach to return UT to being a TOP SEC TEAM, then I'd quickly be on the new coach train. With that said, I believe we have the first real Football Coach we've had in years. The problem with the dooley/boy butch fan boys is/was they would rather UT not win a single game year after year, before they would even consider their love for dooley/boy butch could be hurting our program. I'm still amazed at how many fan boys butch had, his year five (his team) told all.
