The Official Lakers Thread

I always base my rankings on who would dominate every era and who I would pick to build my team around. It's MJ, LBJ, and Kareem then everyone else. I would also put Shaq, Wilt, Olajuwon, Timmy, and probably Admiral over Russell as far as bigs. And super unpopular opinion I'd take Bird over Magic as I think Bird would thrive in any era, and Magic would not today.
Bird is very underrated. LeBron's basically Bird with more size and speed. Bird was a defensive nightmare that could make a steal, get a block or snatch a rebound & start a fast break. In addition to being a passer/scorer/shooter on the offensive end. The total package, and he never really jumped that high off of the ground.

They are similar in that they both probably have the best basketball IQ of their time, but I think Bird was on a different level. It felt like he knew what his opponent was going to do before he did it. He saw everything.

I feel like Bird gets lost in the GOAT talk sometimes, especially with the younger generations, so I champion him when I can. He's one of the greatest shooters ever, could score from anywhere, a top 3 passer ever, a great rebounder, underrated defender, mentally he was elite. Like Scorned said he really didnt have any holes aside from athleticism, but his IQ more than made up for that. I agree with Huff and might go a step further and say Bird had the highest IQ ever.

His biggest problem is he only had 10 good years because numbnuts put a gravel driveway in at his Mom's house himself. Even Jordan had 12 good years with 2 early retirements.

Larry Bird would be a slightly better Brain Scalabrine in 2019

Kobe is so up his ass

"Man, this dude was, he did not care. He was mean. He was nasty. He was competitive. He was vindictive. He was ... yeah, I wish he was in the gym. I would have had f---ing 12 rings."

Shaq didn't need to be in the gym. He needed to be healthy and ready to play 38+ minutes in the playoffs, which he was 7 straight years before Kobe ran him out of town. Kobe was bad against the Spurs in '99 as Shaq struggled against the twin towers. Kobe was mediocre against the Spurs in '03 as Shaq bullied the twin towers. Kobe was awful against the Pistons in '04 while Shaq played well against the best defensive center of the aughts. Kobe took more shots in every one of those three series and he had more turnovers than assists. Then the marriage was over because Kobe wanted it to be.

They would have had closer to 12 rings if Kobe had been a better teammate. He was the problem, not Shaq's work ethic. If you aren't 7' 2", 380 lbs, then you don't know what you're talking about. He's the most dominant player since Jordan and "we talkin' 'bout practice!"

Kobe: 'Nothin but love' for Shaq after drama
