Recruiting Forum Football Talk [RIP 9.3.2019]

Am I missing something here with JG and his health? The past few weeks all of a sudden folks are talking about "if JG can stay healthy throughout the season".... General talk or is there something else going on? Our Oline is supposed to be improved (even if just a little) and if the kid could make it through that 'ish show last season, he should certainly be able to make it through this season (obviously every play there is a chance for anyone to get injured, but you get what I am saying) unless there is something else going on...

I am really hoping for success with the kid, but to date (going into 4th yr in the program), for whatever reason or excuse, I would be shocked if he has proven NFL-worthy to most scouts... he would have to have a breakout year this season to get on the radar, which I hope be does... that would equal some serious success for the overall program.

nice to finally be able to have discussions about the QB situation instead of being all wing and a prayer if QB1 goes down... I think we start seeing this top to bottom in position groups starting next season--- having options and some decent depth.... I mean, some of us are like "what the hell is depth"???

JG isn’t coming back next season, he wants to go to the NFL.

Imho, he needs to prove himself as a college QB before he considers the NFL which includes leading his team to a winning record and a bowl.

I will get burned but I just don't see JG making in the NFL. I mean look at Dobbs and he was much better than JG. He is fighting for back job every year. JG is capable of having a good year but I just don't see him being a draft pick. There are some QB's that are just good college QB's and I think thats JG. Of course some will read that I am saying he is a terrible QB but that's not the case. He is a good QB but imo just not leave early for draft good.

Maybe so. I don’t follow recruiting like I used to but I guess in my head I don’t see Bailey as a “phenom.” Really good high school QB and I’m happy to have him, but it doesn’t feel like the hype is the same it was for guys like Tua and Lawrence. Everyone thought they were NFL QB’s at 17. But maybe I’m just missing the mark.

Either way, I still think the best case scenario is JG plays really well the next two years, Shrout, Maurer or Hill solidify the backup spot in 2020, and Bailey redshirts.
I thought everyone thought HB was an NFL QB when he was in the 8th grade.

Brady tore his ACL behind the best oline in football. Don't read into it much, every statement made about a top tier player and what the assumption about the upcoming season holds is always going to be based on "if they stay healthy"

People just assuming the worst because of all the hits he takes.

You don't watch the NFL or pay attention to the draft much do you? Last year 11 QBs were taken in what most said was one of the weakest classes in recent history.

A few head scratching picks, Ryan Finley, Easton Stick, Clayton Thorson, Gardner Minshew. Now will JG make it in the NFL? Who knows, but I think a winning season or two and good numbers gets him drafted at least.

I like "He needs to do something on the field before he gets a nickname" but I'm weird like that
I didn't make it up. Pretty sure some reporter did. I just said I like the nickname. Pretty sure Dobbs had a nickname before he saw the field too. Didn't hurt him. There's definitely worse things we could be discussing. Should we spend more time on Pruitt leaving us for bama?

Id guess everyone is still in the wait and see mode with the OL. I don't think it has anything to do with a lingering issue.
Your QB can't continue to get hit like JG did last year and stay on the field. And you would probably be fooling yourself to think that even as tough as that kid is it didn't have an effect on him even when he suited up and played last year.

There's no reason the OL can't protect him better this year. If there is, you have issues that won't get resolved until someone is gone.

Also Dobbs lit it up as a junior AND senior and got drafted to be a back up. You guys really think even if JG has a decent year he thinks he can leave after that ONE good year and get drafted? Maybe into the XFL. MAYBE. Would be ridiculous to leave after this year regardless of stats.
