The blinder wearer is the guy who goes on and on about what people think about CJP working with a position group and not paying any attention to past and present players who speak up on his behalf. A half hearted 'oh that's nice' is weak sauce.
All science based on “experience” on this board!

There are, I think, 3 paths to victory in college football. A team can out-talent their opponent, a team can out-coach their opponent, and a team can out-play their opponent. I think the Alabama model (which is also what I think Kirby is following) is to out-talent their opponents. Alabama in particular has a revolving door for coordinators and position coaches so they may be the least stable coaching staff in America, aside from the guy at the top. jmo.

I think Chris Peterson and maybe Dabo Swinney are perhaps more in the mode of out-coaching their opponents. I think the model we’re trying to build, at least in the interim, may be to mostly out-play our opponents. Scheming is critical for the out-coaching model where development is likely more key to the out-playing model. As a coach if your model is to out-talent the other side then your first rule has to be not to screw it up by bone-headed interference. jmo.

247 has the rosters updated for 2019 but they haven’t posted the team rankings yet. Rivals is a little easier to understand in that all blue-chips are not created equal. When you get into the 0.89/0.90 composite blue chips it may not always be a consensus from the big 3. With rivals a 6.1 is a 5-star, a 6.0 is a high 4-star, a 5.9 is a mid 4-star, and a 5-8 is a low 4-star.
I looked at all the rosters for our schedule this year to see how many blue chips (> 0.8900) a team had and how many of those were highly sought after blue chips. I used > 0.9500 for my cutoff because I’ve posted about that before.

This is the blue chip comparison breakdown for our 2019 schedule:

Very interesting. I’d be curious to see how that talent is divided up into class and how many were transfers.
Another thing I’d love to see at some point is a “blue chip success rate.” Some type of statistical analysis that could see if coaches get more or less out of their players than other schools.

Chemists are magicians. If they can take a coca leaf and turn it into a potent coca powder, or a poppy flower into opium/morphine/heroin, then it doesn't seem a stretch to be able to remove the coca from the leaf. But yes, I am sure there were still residual amounts in the soft drink for a time.
Good...print it!

He may have a lot of support....but there is one man there who can single handed blackball JP...and he has said in past he would due to some unfortunate circumstances that occured while JP was at Bama. This is not to be taken lightly and from multiple folks i have spoken with unless major amends are made JP stands no chance at that job in the future.
Good thing we’ve got Charlie Anderson in Phil’s ear on our side.

While I’m excited to see a player like Henry T. ball out for the good guys, I’m looking forward to the days when we’ve stacked enough talent that these type of guys take a redshirt freshman year.

I don’t know if that ever happens anywhere. Even at Bama they have 1-2 guys every year that play big roles at incoming freshmen

Yea I have no problem with a few Freshman either starting, or getting significant playing time every year. To me, that just means we are recruiting the best of the best. The issue is when there are multiple starting on both sides of the ball that aren't of the 5*/high 4* variety. IMO, that tends to be a situation you want to avoid - generalization, I know, but JMO.

Good possibility Pruitt goes after him if there's an opening in the offseason, IMO.
You don’t see him making a go of it in the NFL? His biggest (some say only) strength is recruiting, so I could buy that. Was the jump to Cleveland a temporary way out of Bama because he felt a bad fit at DC and wanted to avoid a demotion? Please direct all responses to butchna Thoughts...my new podcast.

Imo 2 or under is ok and expected. Anything more than that gets worrisome.

What are we at this year 2-3?

I think this season we'll end up on the high side personally. Maybe not starters, but it's looking like Wanya, Wright, Henry T, Simmons, Gray, Crouch, Harrison, Burrell will all see significant playing time.

But to your point, Wanya and Henry T and maybe Burrell look to be the only "starters", so yes 2-3 right now.

I’d be curious to know but 7 true freshmen playing significant snaps doesn’t seem to out of the ordinary

Wasn’t there one year we had 12-14 play a bunch ?
