Recruiting Forum Football Talk [RIP 9.3.2019]

I don't think many would take issue with that grade for his first season. Seems fair to me. He made some mistakes. But I do think he showed enough in the season, especially against Georgia, Auburn and Kentucky, as well as the way he finished the 2019 recruiting class even with a losing record, and the class he is currently putting together. And rectifying his coordinator mistakes quickly with very good hires. The progress the team appears to be making across the board and building those relationships back up so the team wants to follow his lead. I think those are the reasons people are getting excited and claim he's a real football coach. The video of him working one on one with a couple newcomers was just a good visual aid to trigger the excitement.

Agreed

The unsolicited response to him working from those kids he worked with is the best part. I like that a lot

You kept responding too. haha. I saw it. And laughed. It's a nice story. You pointing out that the other poster's take was a bit hyperbolic is fine. Most don't have a problem with any of that. It was the 10 pages about how Pruitt is gonna take the bama job that is annoying and unnecessary.

My apologies. Page after page of movie reviews would have been more appropriate

I guess this thread is better suited for movie talks and a place where we come to read about things other than football.

Can you direct me which thread to discuss Tennessee football in because I don’t want to get off topic here ?
But of course maybe movie talk is more appropriate here I guess

Gee, wonder what the schtick of the day is today.

Btw, what CJP can bring to Rocky Top IS TN football. But I found a place happy to discuss Jones and the Bama coaching position.

Enjoy. 🙋‍♂️

Thirty odd years ago I made a promise to my Dad. Today I had to keep that promise. My dad has had Dementia for several years his health the few months has steadily declined so today I put him on Hospice care to just keep him comfortable as he slips away. For a brief time today he opened his eyes. I took his hand laid my head on his chest and him I loved him and it was ok to just let go. I cried like a baby (at 61) not ashamed. If your mom and dad are still alive tell them you love while you can.
As someone who's mother is suffering from that disease I feel for you. I'll pray for your peace and understanding. I pray for a peacful passing for your dad. I know that day is around the corner for me as well. I'm sure it doesn't make it easier once the time comes.

Edit: I see your dad has passed. He's free from that evil disease. Prayers of peace and healing.

There are, I think, 3 paths to victory in college football. A team can out-talent their opponent, a team can out-coach their opponent, and a team can out-play their opponent. I think the Alabama model (which is also what I think Kirby is following) is to out-talent their opponents. Alabama in particular has a revolving door for coordinators and position coaches so they may be the least stable coaching staff in America, aside from the guy at the top. jmo.

I think Chris Peterson and maybe Dabo Swinney are perhaps more in the mode of out-coaching their opponents. I think the model we’re trying to build, at least in the interim, may be to mostly out-play our opponents. Scheming is critical for the out-coaching model where development is likely more key to the out-playing model. As a coach if your model is to out-talent the other side then your first rule has to be not to screw it up by bone-headed interference. jmo.

247 has the rosters updated for 2019 but they haven’t posted the team rankings yet. Rivals is a little easier to understand in that all blue-chips are not created equal. When you get into the 0.89/0.90 composite blue chips it may not always be a consensus from the big 3. With rivals a 6.1 is a 5-star, a 6.0 is a high 4-star, a 5.9 is a mid 4-star, and a 5-8 is a low 4-star.
I looked at all the rosters for our schedule this year to see how many blue chips (> 0.8900) a team had and how many of those were highly sought after blue chips. I used > 0.9500 for my cutoff because I’ve posted about that before.

This is the blue chip comparison breakdown for our 2019 schedule:

Good post. I would like to see how tenure/experience compares here. Would imagine most of our blue chip talent would likely fall in the less experienced category making it skewed.

Regardless, with one more class Pruitt will have this roster turned over and it will be stacked with big, strong and fast athletes.

Honestly if he stays here 4-5 years and get us into the top 10 for an entire year I’ll applaud him even if he leaves. It would suck but be worth it
We will turn on him faster than a snapping turtle on a two legged frog

A coach does not leave Tennessee to go to Alabama to applause from both

We need a 5 tho 👀

lol

I didn’t ruin it. I just find it that experience and age brings knowledge to this board. When you have seen this board worship every move of Kiffin, Dooley, Butch and now Pruitt by saying the same kind of things about each it is very well worth discussing that many things people here say is just plain not accurate.

I mean we had a poster yesterday claiming that since Pruitts kids sing rocky top that he’s certainly here for the long run. I mean it’s really hard to forgot The exact thing was said when Lane named his kid knox.

But of course maybe movie talk is more appropriate here I guess
Knowledge...experience in spin...old failed tactics...what evs. 😴 People thought it was neat that our new coach named his kids Knox...no one Bruined it as a lifetime commitment. Your referenced poster mentioned (what should have been) a nice blurb about our current coach’s kids maybe liking where their dad works...here come da Bruin Hawk! Like what your mind crafts as football talk as opposed to movies tho.
