Generally agree with your opinion/optics point...but what else do we bring on here?
Absolutely nothing.
Just that's as far as it goes. This is one where I'm truly not sure and I'm limiting my judgment until the retention/dismissal at season's end. Only because it's so unknown.
I've done the exact same with JJP. Couple of 'not a good look(s)' there but without knowing.. well, I just don't cast negatives in unknowns as easily as I do positive. It's just my personality.

Same

Ron, I love hearing how that practice is run! Especially comparing it to how the last 3 coaches ran theirs. My favorite part was how everyone is constantly moving and competing and being coached, even the walk-ons. I think it was Majors that said you're only as strong as your weakest link. Good to know that everyone is getting stronger mentally as well as physically. I think they'll continue to get better as the season goes on like Fulmer's teams did. Excited for the future, and August 31st can't get here soon enough.

No doubt.
I just took it as his excitement compared to what he's used to seeing for the last 2 years. Ron said he concluded with a more modest 7-8 win team, which honestly, would look pretty great to me too, at least in comparison.

I am looking for competitiveness, game to game improvement and fight. We did not have any consistency last year in any of these attributes.

If this team goes 5-7 with another loss to Vanderbilt. Y’all are going to want Pruitt out and at this point staring over is the worst thing that could happen to this program.
So look at things only in the worst possible case, pretend to know how other people's minds work and then claim the title 'realist' for making unrealistic statements?

Idk man, seems a little fishy.

It’s fine to take a wait and see approach, but when your OC is making #1 money and your OL coach is #2 highest paid in the nation, and the unit still plays poorly then something has got to give.

Let’s hope it just goes away.

Thanks for saving me. I almost got excited for the season. I won't waste my time now.

We'll see. My judgement may be out on WF but not on Chaney. If it takes longer to fix it then that's what it takes.

Don't care how much you pay the mechanics, they're not turning HItR's Stratus into Gucci's Bugatti on teaching ability alone.

What’s worse than that worst is starting over before you even started. 😏

Interior OL is set. Who are the tackles we’re in on?

@Ron Swanson @Big Gucci Sosa

Good question. I just looked at the targets listed by GV247, and OTs are few and far between. I did find this from Callahan on 8/6/19:

Tennessee still would like to add at least one more offensive lineman to its class, and the Vols' remaining targets at the position including four-star tackle Marcus Dumervil of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and four-star Chris Morris of Memphis, Tenn.

Naturally, I'd assume the staff hasn't made OT the biggest priority this cycle after getting Wright and Morris in the last class. Dumervil is a top prospect though. From what I've read, FL and LSU seem to be towards the top right now for him.

Jerry Glanville used to live in Knoxville. He attended a Butch Jones practice. Butch asked him how it went. Glanville said to quit screaming through that microphone. Its a huge distraction. And u only got about 15 min of good quality practice time. Butch was the ultimate moron
Remember when Hank said they’d be full pads and contact on Friday too

Thanks. I’d think the staff would make it a priority every class.

So wouldn't the same thing apply to Florida who this year has far less talent and far less experience on the OL than we so?

I said in a previous post this week that I'n not worried about our players. I'm more concerned about our coaches and that's true. I think they'll do okay. We'll see. I think there's three important things that we have to consider, talent, coaching, and culture, but the most important of these is culture. My view right now is we are significantly improved in all three of these areas this year compared to the prior two. Are we improved enough? Again, we'll see. I like our coaches okay. I like Ansley the best but he's a rookie DC. I like YAC and Rumph. They seem okay. I'm not a big Chaney fan but I think he's okay. He's a journeyman. He's got a lot of experience. I don't think we ever have to worry about him being hired away from us, not with what we're paying him. I think he's a huge upgrade over Helton in more ways than one. The rest, I think they're okay too. The most valuable coach we have could be Nieds, primarily because he seems to be our best recruiter. All of our coaches know how to teach football. What makes them effective teachers is how well they can connect with the guys they're teaching, hence why Pruitt has focused heavily this offseason on the staffs relationships with their players, including and especially his. I think that's going to pay outsized dividends this year. We'll see. jmo.

Sleepgro and Butchna I'm very sorry about ur losses. As we get older it happens but doesn't get any easier or hurt any less.

As far as the team goes I remain optimistic till i Have reasons not to be. Why take the time to come on the best site around and throw cold water on the season before it begins..

I'll go with yes on Fl, even though I know nothing about their roster and don't remember who the OL coach is. But sounds negative so sign me up.

I'm polar opposite on Chaney. One, I think he's really good period, no qualifiers needed but I'll add this anyway.
When looking at our weakest areas, Helton not understanding/ lack of SEC experience.
A struggling OL.
Pruitt needing someone he could turn over full control of the offense with zero worries.
And a QB in need of a better teacher and an understanding of how to play to their strengths, I personally couldn't have asked for anyone more suited. I absolutely love the hire.
I could throw out several names for playcalling and make a great argument for them. But when it comes to total package and our needs, I think Pruitt hit it out of the park with Chaney. No regrets at all.

SEC is a line of scrimmage league Vols are rebuilding both lines from departures and injuries. They have some talent to rely on but in the SEC everyone has talent. In the SEC you must stop the run and run it whenever you need to run it. It’s a Hugh question mark on both sides of scrimmage.

Vols should win all of their non conference games but the BYU game presents some match up problems because of their experienced offensive line against a young inexperienced UT D line. So I’m not certain UT will win that game.

As far as the conference is concerned, I don’t have a lot of faith the Vols can block anyone enough to finish drives. I’m not saying they will lose every SEC game but I certainly wouldn’t be surprised if UT lost to Mizzou, Vanderbilt, Kentucky, SC or Miss State. It’s going to come down to JG and the offense’s ability to put points on the board to get those wins. 7 wins sounds great but looking at the schedule, I have concerns about where they will come from.

The Vols will go as far as JG and the offense will take them this season!
But "unknown" is not the same as bad.
