What do you know for 100 percent certainty about this team?
This team feels different about themselves and they feel different about Pruitt. Last year the team was listening and buying in. They have put the work in and know their bodies are different after listening to Fitz and it reinforces what they have been told. I'm not saying they win 10 but when they walk on the field they will feel they have a chance to beat anyone. Last year they did not feel that. And If you don't believe you can do it, you are assuring yourself that you won't. Pruittt is not a loser and they are taking on the mentality and that will only be a good thing.

Please enlighten me.

All I have seen so far is opinion that this team will be better because of X (insert argument here) when in reality no one knows anything about this team other than they look good getting off the bus and during warmups.

Does that translate into to wins on the football field?

We all hope it does but until they beat someone they shouldn’t on the football field we have very little evidence that they will.
Did that last season TWICE. So when does the clock start?

If we are speaking quite literally - nothing. And neither do you.

Yes, we know several things with 100 percent certainty.

1. Pruitt is the Head Coach.
2. The Vols are a member of the SECE.
3. The Vols are coming of a 5-7 season and 2-6 in the SEC.
4. The Vols are scheduled to play 12 games this season. These we know for certain.

These are beliefs, assumptions and inferences and NOT facts.

1. The Vols will be better this season because of OC Chaney.
2. The Vols will win more games this season because they look better getting off the bus and in drills.
3. The Vols will win more games this season because they are a year older.
4. The Vols will win more games this season because of the weaker schedule.
5. The Vols have more 300 plus linemen this season than last so they will win more games this season.

I could go on but I won’t. The Vols certainly could be better this season but they will need to prove it on the field by beating teams that they have been beating.

I wish there was a rule in college football that mandated that the media gets to see all of practice. You could put rules around when they’re allowed to video and maybe not allow them to comment on formations. It sucks that we only hear about 10 minutes of practice a day.
Thanks Jimmy.

8-4

Reasons:
1) Second year in a strong S&C program.
2) Chaney - including his scheme that works with this roster and against SEC opponents.
3) Ansley - is in CJP's head and will have the D executing their scheme.
4) CJP - he can now fully be a HC. He put out fires all last season relating to the poor roster situation, S&C, scheme implementation, poor play calling on O, etc. That stops with two quality OC's.
5) Freshmen - there are a handful of true and RS freshmen who are very capable of having quality seasons. Even more than proved themselves last season. If they happen to come through at OT, DL, LB, and DB - well - look out, it may get very interesting.

The horse is dead, homeslice. The horse is dead. And what did you prove?

That didn’t have a good number of our additions...or many of our souped up returnees i.e Jauan Jennings. #Science.
And honestly, my personal opinion is that 1's still looked mildly better despite it being all vanilla and limited players.

The lines were still a work in progress but I saw a little more speed and understanding of the system on both sides.

I suppose the question then becomes how often is the appeal granted?
That's the question...in my experience of working a similar process, initial cases are far more likely to get approved than any additional reviews. Never a good sign to begin with. You really have to have left something out the first time to change your case. Hopefully that's the case here, if in fact he did get denied initially.

With the NCAA, it first goes through "reconsideration". That only requires new or additional supporting facts. We really don't want it to get the 3rd step of an "appeal" imo. By that stage you need outside authoritative support.

True, but every team isn't the same in the preseason. Undefeated, yes, but with different probabilities of success based on variables that change from season to season.

I'm not trying to debate or change your opinion-- just pointing out that people who feel differently have logic on their side.

C'mon man, so you're telling us you're NOT in your bunker with food stores and a gun in hand every morning at 6 am to make sure that dang sun rises again? I live with NO inferences.

Here's how I'm seeing it: we beat MSU, USC and UK. We're all feeling really good even though we've lost to our three main rivals.

…..then Missouri blows us out and we lose to Vandy close.

It's the perfect #VOLol season because it gives both the positive and negative fans enough to feel like they were right.

"A two game improvement with wins over a handful of good teams!"

"We lost to our rivals and **** the bed down the stretch!"

"It's a depth issue! We just ran out of gas to end the year."

"We need another good recruiting class to get where we want to be."
I refuse to like this post!!

But seriously I will be livid if Pruitt ever loses to Vandy again

There is an echo chamber of optimism around these parts this time of the year and I think we all fall victim to it. This time last year I was convinced we were going to beat WVU and play UF very close. We were all absolutely sure Tyson Helton would be great and the offensive line "couldn't be as bad as last year."

I think it's just a flaw of the human brain. We allow ourselves to make a ton of false assumptions because we want those things to be true. We won't truly "know" anything until we line up vs. BYU. Everything else, both positive and negative, is all guesswork.

Considering we couldn’t even block a flea last year we will at least know if our OL is okay after the first game.... so that’s good news

Lol at your first 1 and 2 and 4.

And while we do know for certain what our record was last year, you cannot use that to deduce how we will fair this year.

As far as your second list, those are all fair points for an inductive argument. I will go further and say that all those points provide pretty solid support for a 2 win improvement this season.

And actually brother, your #3 is dismissible because THIS team is 0-0. 2018 Vols are not the 2019 Vols. Their record last year is not attached to them in any way. We know absolutely nothing about this team (other than the silliness of your 1,2,4) until they step on the field.
