Harping about the Mormon's multiple wives stereotype doesn't apply to the Latter Day Saints church proper. They disavowed that practices a LONG time ago. However, some offshoot factions do practice it to varying degrees of...uh, ill-advised and illegal levels. Hence Warren Jeffries and similar alternate-LDS groups.
All that being said, we non-LDS are in no position to judge them. Primarily media focus is on the Catholic kid pokers and nun lovers but protestants are no better except at hiding it. This goes on in both main and fringe protestant church groups and has for centuries. Any time you have people in a position of power over oppressed, dependent, and otherwise fear-governed people, those people will be exploited including sexually. Often structures are also in place to silence people. Kid and lady member oil well drilling happens in conservative run private schools, churches, camps, and the like. The matter is less talked about in the media but research shows it's very widespread. My point is, when you go pointing at the other guy, it's just as bad or worse on your side of the fence. And it shouldn't be part of a football forum, but guess which side initiated it? Nope, it wasn't the Mormons. Based on my years of hanging out with these people, it's VERY rarely is brought up by them. It's folks stuck on old stereotypes about the LDS. Frankly, in my face to face interactions, I brought it up at times. I wanted to understand their history from them and not via hearsay. Read their and other books on them and while not an expert, I learned enough to get a fairly decent understanding of who they are. Including some very interesting tidbits of their history like the "Angels of Death" under Brigham Young if I recall correctly. Reminded me a lot of the gunslingers hired by cattle barons, night riders of the southern post Civil War killers, and various hired guns episodes in American History. Try exploring their story instead of just assuming. You just might learn something.
