Nice, the workout I mentioned actually has them in the split already so I'll go that route instead of with DBs.

What would you suggest to replace BB squat, or would you just do it in the smith machine?
I’ve been over at the Planet for a couple months now. Not real crazy about the smith machine on squats, but if you get your feet placement correct, it can be a very natural movement. And since it takes lateral movement out of the equation, I just throw on a little more weight to make myself feel better.

I don't intend to lift super heavy anyway...and usually I don't hit "grunt" level until I'm in those heavy 3 rep sets.

Depending on your goals, i’d probably program some single leg leg press. Doesn’t train your ego because you can’t load it with 900 pounds for 3 inch range of motion reps, but it is a very effective exercise allowing you to go nice and deep and training your weaker leg first allows you to balance out any muscle imbalances by limiting the stronger leg till both are relatively equal in size and strength

Anybody over age 40 squatting is a pyschopath imo.

Isn't that discussion for every thread? Or am I missing something.
Agree with 95% of topics but there's nothing left to be said on JG, everyone knows the counterpoints by heart. Also 1 of the few subject where no one ever changes their mind even a bit.

If there's something new I'm not aware, by all means. Otherwise, it's bordering on politics for extremism and stubbornness.

I'm over 50 and still do squats. I just don't do heavy weight anymore.
Last year I tried to reach a 2.5 x body weight squat, but my lower back locks up when I start loading with double body weight and I had to drop it. I still train heavy (6-10 reps) but unless I can get through that psychological roadblock, I’ll have to let that goal go

SIAP, but I saw this tidbit in the most recent Ubben article on The Athletic:

Thompson called Pruitt the best coach in the country.

“He is easily the best defensive coach in the country,” Bituli said. “If you ask this man any question about any formation or coverage, he doesn’t stutter, he knows it just like that. Our first meeting with him, I was like, ‘How does some dude know all this like this?’”

What that sentiment speaks to is something that wasn’t there in the latter years of the Butch Jones era at Tennessee. Tennessee’s players have a pretty real belief in the guy leading them...It speaks to the confidence and respect Pruitt has established with his roster.

I loved reading this part. Figured some would enjoy seeing this, too.

39 and squatting heavy about an hour from now. I’ll keep the light on for ya
I usually do 185 with GVT of 10x10 and usually achieve the full 10 sets with all 10 reps. I know that's necessarily a heavy weight but I sweat and it really impacts my max.

40 yrs old.

@Sleegro. Glanced back and realized I probably sounded like a jackass. Didn't mean to, I was thinking about the stuff they say on it, in the FF, not our discussion.

Sorry if I did, definitely didn't mean it that way.

I was a competitive powerlifter in my late teens and early 20s. I had over 500 on my back and its not much fun. There is absolutely zero reason for me to squat now a days, jut run and keep the upper body in shape. Squatting is serious business but hey you do you.
