I've never been there so it's impossible to say if it's a shthole, but I've heard enough to know it's not somewhere I'd look forward to visiting. The mayor of Baltimore should be getting his own house in order before criticizing anyone.

let's take a step back here.

Person A is bringing light to a situation in Baltimore that has been harped on by the Baltimore Sun. His points are actually legit.

Group B is over here trying to silence it and sweep it back under the rug with the "BaLtImOrE iZ bEaUtIfUl" diversion.

So one end calls out a bad job where minorities people are living in terrible conditions due bad policies over time and the other is trying to pretend it doesn't exist... who is the racist?

He is just pointing out the situation in the districts of these long term politicians. If they can't fix their own district after 30 years in office, why should they be making laws, sitting on committees and telling other representatives what to do?

What got Elijah was screaming at the Border Patrol Director in hearings. Trump is merely pointing out Elijah's hypocrisy.

Don't be so naive, Trump is doing this for political purposes only. He has been criticized by Cummings and his fragile ego can't handle it so he lashes out. If he was really concerned with the "long term politicians" in these cities and states he would be pointing out that the Top 10 States with the highest poverty rate in this Country are virtually all red states while the Top 10 states with the lowest poverty rates are virtually all blue states.

Percentages don't mean as much as shear numbers. How many more are at the poverty level total in the blue states vs number total in the red states?

Here's just some indicators:

About 1.7 million New Yorkers lived below the poverty line in 2011-2015. This number is larger than the population of Philadelphia or Phoenix, and would be the country's 7th largest city if ranked separately. The overall poverty rate in New York City has remained relatively steady since 1980, hovering at around 20% -.Jun 7, 2017

Mississippi ... Population: 2,889,851 Number in Poverty: 571,219 .

The poverty rate in Baltimore is an extremely high 23.8%, based on persons living below the poverty level from the Census measurement from 2009 to 2013 period.

Poverty by Age and Gender 22.4% of the population for whom poverty status is determined in Baltimore city, MD (134k out of 597k people) live below the poverty line - US Census

Louisiana Population: 4,553,037 Number in Poverty: 899,039

About 14 percent of people in the Chicago metropolitan area, or more than 1.3 million people, lived below the poverty line in 2013, the Census Bureau reported Thursday.

Of the 2,409,248 residents of Los Angeles, California who were born citizens of the United States, 472,968 (19.6%) had income levels below the poverty line within the past year.

When factoring in housing costs and other basic necessities, nearly one in five Californians lives in poverty, according to data released this week by the U.S. Census Bureau.
Under these measurements, California’s poverty rate is higher than any other U.S. state—though it has improved since last year, when the Census Bureau reported that 20.4 percent of residents were living below the poverty line.
Those calculations are based on a statistic that the bureau introduced in 2011 called the “supplemental poverty measure.”

Accounting for housing costs, California has nation’s highest poverty rate

Percentages matter more than sheer numbers. The numbers speak for themselves, red states are worse off when it comes to poverty than blue states. It's not even an argument.

Cummings jumped on the BP director "worried about the children." It's clear Cummings doesn't give a damn about the kids in his district so when he criticized, the spotlight was aimed brightly back in Cummings face.

Percentages do not matter more than sheer numbers. Total people at the poverty level is what it is, you only want to use percentages because it lets you hide the sheer disaster big cities governed by Democrats truly are. 1% of 1,000,000 requires a whole lot more of government assistance than 10% of 10,000.

The federal poverty line is a useless joke. A family of 4 living in NYC making $40k per year is above the poverty line yet I would say that in reality that family is worse off than one in TN making $25k per year.

Exactly!!! You'd have to compare with COL. The perfect stat would be percentage of people living under the average cost of living.

I bet this would change a lot of the numbers. A person living on 25k in Missouri is better off than a person living off 40k in San Francisco.

And heaven forbid they grow their own food and make their own whiskey.

Junior wrote a song about this. 😁

So, since Lord Red Hat doesn't like Baltimore. He should go back to whatever country would accept him? Just being fair.

Trump doesn’t like the conditions in Baltimore, so he chooses to live elsewhere, exactly practicing what he’s preaching. And he’s not trashing it, he’s accurately describing it. Just like the local media and politicians have been doing for years.

Wrong. Man, you are twisting yourself into knots on this one. What I'm actually pointing out is that states governed and run by Republicans have a higher percentage of their residents living below the poverty line. It's a fact. Poverty is directly tied to Education level and residents in Blue States consistently rank higher than residents in Red States - another area where Republican run states have consistently failed their residents.

Education is a joke nowadays. I would say our education system is a preposterous failure.

What's the rates in the big cities? Just look at Baltimore. 13 Baltimore City High Schools, zero students proficient in math

You are the one being twisted into knots.
