BYU game is absolutely huge.

Speaking of BYU, the clowns in the media and elsewhere will probably push the story-line that BYU beat Wisconsin last year. I looked at the returning production on offense and defense for teams last year, compared that to Phil Steele’s experience chart, and added a talent metric, so as to try to get a better picture of the comparisons of the teams last year versus this year. If this was still last year fingernail eaters might have a case but since it’s not I’m thinking they just enjoy the taste of fingernails. jmo.

One of the interesting things about Steele’s experience chart is that it relies a lot on the class year of the players whether or not they previously have ever made it onto the field. Also of note, last year Whiskey had almost no on-field productive experience returning on defense, at any position.

I don't mean to say we should overlook BYU or anyone else and if our culture has changed any at all I don't think we will but the fact of the matter is BYU probably doesn't have a single player that could outrun Jim Chaney let alone Ty Chandler. jmo.

eh. i thought last year was by and large a 6-6 "just get to a bowl" year.

this year, i think most still expect to lose to FL. i know i do. i think we have an outside chance to pull out an upset, but if you're telling me to put money on it, i wouldn't bet on it.

now where i will agree with you on this year is some of this stuff that's coming out about FPI and such. that's a lot of garbage lol.

favored in 9 games? really? now when you look at some of those "favors", they're really pick 'ems based on the %'s but yeah, this notion of being a top 15 team in any manner etc...it is too much too early and people really shouldn't buy in to all that non sense.

my comments are really about looking 2-3 years down the road, and i think Bass's are too, though his timeline might be a little ahead of mine....but regardless, you start talking about the future, and it's crapshoot. lot's can happen, lots can change. just right now, it looks like it has a chance to go that direction.

Every time I see, "but ESPN has predicted us to win 9 games" I want to smack someone in the American education system.

As for UF, it is hard to tell. Mullen built a solid MSU program over time. Unfortunately, some of his best traits as a HC may not even be fully felt until year 3 or beyond. Hoping the crazy gator fans become too much and he bounces, because he is a really good ball coach, no matter how cheesy a person he is.

I mean 6 wins really isn’t saying too much imo

I think you need at least 8 to really make anyone think we’re on the right track

You could win 8 and still not beat any ranked team at end of season.

I totally agree with this.

Win those two and we are off and running.

Lose both and it is a struggle for 6-6 and a bowl.

Split and it will be a tough year, but should go bowling.

Extreme cases. Seems most likely we split no? Just as importantly are the margins. A solid win over BYU and a competitive UF game will mean we've probably taken a step forward

Difference is goofy Dan is a decent coach whereas the intern was awful. He'll do better than he did of course, but things aren't going well for him. This isn't MS State. There's pressure at this job and you know he's already feeling it.

Mullen is a great game day coach for sure. Their talent disparity with UGA is pretty big though. However, each L they take to Kirby Buttcut will not be taken with context. Their bandwagon fans expect to win that game every year. How long will UF fans tolerate losing to UGA?

I sincerely hope that returning production pays off like we think it will. It's a great metric, but I will hate it if we go 6-6 or worse.
