Anybody going to the MAGA meet-up in Washington Thursday?

Are the Democrats or DNC actually attending this parade? If so, did they request VIP passes? Were those requests denied? Were denials based on political part affiliation?
I mean, if Dems were being denied VIP passes, then I would agree they have something to complain about. That would be completely unacceptable IMO.

There is a celebration of our country's Independence Day in our nation's capital and because "orange man bad" some people are throwing hissy fits that would make a toddler proud.

Did you have the slightest interest in the program that happened in Washington DC on the evening of July 4, 2016?

The passes were only made available to the RNC to allocate, supposedly to big donors. I would be surprised if the offer had been made to, I don't know... anyone, other than a political entity. At this point there may be an attempt at damage control. Would be wise to do so, IMO.

After watching the debates, are you not embarrassed to mention "your tax dollars at work" about any issue? The leaders of your party are discussing spending more than we currently collect in tax revenues on issues of non-importance to the rank and file. And this is what you are pointing out to us? Can't have it both ways, sorry!

Spending money on health care or education don't matter to the rank-and-file? I think it matters a lot more to the rank-and-file than does a bunch of tax breaks for billionaires.

Are you in favor of free college for all?

I regret not having done so.

But if I were POTUS I would not throw a Bastille day military parade for my ego anyway, so it's not a very apt question.
On the surface, I agree with you, but let's see how it actually goes down i.e. whether it's a few tanks or a May Day parade through Red Square.

Once upon a time, in America, political differences were put aside for a day that everyone celebrated together as America's Independence Day, a day of great military victory.

Folks gathered together in cities and towns large and small, in fields, parks and along waterfronts to watch parades, listen to music, break bread together and watch the fireworks. No one cared what your political affiliation was because on that day, like no other day of the year, we were all proud Americans.

Sad to see that is no longer the case in this country.

I plan to celebrate my country in this fashion as well --going to a friend's place in Brooklyn where one can witness 3 simultaneous firework shows at once--surrounded by libtards who are all fine Americans and also cherish their country. A suggestion?---
--All should take a break from VP tomorrow--- a one day cease fire? Maybe we can then take the time to reflect on our shared values and commonalities rather than retreating to the usual binary opposition.
--One quibble with the above post-- The Americans were in retreat from Quebec during late June and early July 1776...moreover the Continental Army completely withdrew from NYC in November after defeats in Aug/Sept/Oct.
--maybe you meant: political/diplomatic/unifying victory ?
American victories were few and far between after Evacuation Day on March 17th in Boston.
HAPPY 4TH everyone...Go Vols!

Newark, I would say, with the exception of a few, if most of us on the PF sat across from someone on the other side of the political aisle, we would probably find we have more in common than we think. Many of our concerns (debt, deficit, retirement, etc.) have the same goal, we just come at if from different angles. Enjoy your 4th.

Maybe I'm alone in this addition to your thought. I think most of us could get together, have some fellowship, and enjoy each other's company.

Did y’all catch the headlines today in the paper??

“Trump First President Ever to Pull Political Stunt”

I was shocked!

Nothing like making a traffic jam worse, while adding additional unnecessary security measures, so he can insert himself into a what would have been an otherwise traditional 4th of July celebration. I think the optics will do enough damage, even before he opens his mouth.

No.

But I think there is merit to the following two points, and we can debate how best to address them:

1) People who have high student debt loan should be allowed to refinance it when rates are low, just like with a mortgage or credit cards. As is, you cannot do that once you have consolidated and refinanced that one time.

2) Four year degrees are no longer the exclusive doorway to middle class life that they once were. There should be lower cost options for 2 year degrees connected to technical or other trade training, especially locally.

This won't come as a surprise to many but no I wouldn't get along with these dems here, I don't have anything in common with them. I can't be pals with people who call half of the country racists, want to remove a sitting President because he hurt their feelings, want free everything, want 70% tax on the rich, want open borders and are perfectly fine with a group that beats the hell out of people who they disagree with.

C’mon Stew, don’t let the tic humor be lost on you. Have a good 4th.

I can agree with both of those points. I'll even go one farther. In Scotland last week I heard one of the conservative candidates had a plan to forgive student debt for those that start businesses and employ 10 employees for 5 years. On the surface that sounds leftist, but the key is that they have to start a business (which you can't do with a gender studies PhD) and keep people employed. The only sticking point is verification. This is America. People will cheat. But I would think in order for those loans to be forgiven, it could be verified as to whether or not an actual business exists and if there are actual employees.

Bottom line though we have to get rid of stupid worthless degree programs, and until it starts costing the universities money it won't happen. Brace for more highly educated luther types hitting the local Starbucks.
