The Kerry Blackshear Thread

I'm amazed at some of the same people who bash Barnes are swinging from Pruitt's nuts. I mean I hope Pruitt does well but so far the jury is still way out on whether he's going to work out like we want.

Of course they'll be the same people that will turn on Pruitt if/when the time comes that it's clear he isn't "the guy". Just like they did with Dooley and Jones.
At least then they will have some historical data to run with. Right now, they are just assuming Barnes will fail even though he's given them no reason to believe that to be the case. The only other time his current methods, recruiting, and roster were doubted, he ran off the best 2-year run in school history. Do I believe he'll do it again with this group? No, probably not, but I'm certainly willing to let him fail me before I call him a failure.

Mike White is quickly becoming as unlikable as Billy D was while he was a Florida.

First he spurns UT when they approach him about the job a few years ago.
Next he signs Quez from Bearden.
And now Blackshear.

Hanging my hat on the fact that Barnes has forgotten more about basketball than i'll ever know.

However, it's hard to argue that some of the negative response from this Blackshear situation isn't somewhat related to the PR debacle of his UCLA flirtation.
Not to mention Tre Mann.

But I never had a problem with Donovan outside of the fact that he was Florida’s coach.

What we gonna talk about till November if we just have to wait to see how this all plays out? Are you not familiar with a message board during the off-season? Most places talk about the roster.
I fine with questioning whether the current team can win.

I'm not fine with claiming that they won't win.

Recent history is on my side in that regard, but some people are too foolish or stubborn to recall it.

Are you not familiar with how speculative and definitive statements work during the off-season?

A couple of his best regular season runs at Texas happened after he lost 4 or 5 from his starting line up or the team was plagued by multiple injuries. The guy wins. and we all know where his flaws are. I'll wait and watch.

I’ve seen a couple people claim that (the usual suspects) but I think most people are just overall have a lot of questions and some don’t have as much faith trying to replace four starters. I could be wrong, you could be wrong.

Such a disaster that UT hired a 600 win coach in a week. It was not a good situation but you guys really need to see what an actual disaster is. 2017 Tennessee Football after Schiano. 2004 Baylor. 2012 Penn State. That’s a disaster

Your argument is that Barnes isn't THAT good of a coach because UT wasn't a disaster because they hired a really good coach.

Also, those aren't basketball teams?

Please point me to the post where I said Barnes isn’t a good coach. Either way, Tennessee hires a guy with a solid resume.

2004 Baylor is. After the Dennehy murder

It's incredible to me how quickly the winds change. Yes, it's a huge disappointment missing out on KBJ after it seemed we had him. I'm not going to hide my disappointment. BUT, the number of people jumping on here to discuss this "trash" roster Barnes has for this season, and how he cannot get it done, is insane. I'm seeing people say things like "Well we were always a football school" or "Maybe Pruitt can get us to 8 wins this season."

The fact you numb-nuts believe we are in better shape for football than basketball shows how little you actually watch sports and just love hating on everything TN. Football is a LONG ways off. And this roster Barnes has, while transitional, is still not that bad. Bowden and Turner were major contributors these last two years, and I would be shocked if they both didn't take another step forward. James is a 5* and Barnes normally hits on 5* and has few busts. There are a lot of questions after those 3, but you also have a lot of potential. High risk. High reward.

Football has been a mess for more than a decade. Barnes restored this program in 3 years. If you're such a fair-weather fan that you're ready to jump ship already, then by all means have fun with the nightmare that is our football program. But, when Barnes lands Keon Johnson, Jaden Springer, and 1 more 5* to go with Corey Walker next year, I don't want to see you back here jumping on to the bandwagon again.

Oh my, I think I know what's happening here  ...

I hope you’re right and look forward to that. I think we’re entering a gap year and KB would have bridged it nicely. Now we’re going to be pretty exposed unless Barnes works some magic with the current squad.
Like he did with the previous two.

600 win coach who had just been fired for the first time in his career. Been turned down by mid-major coaches...one of which Archie Miller, wouldn’t even give us an interview. No...we were flying high and Brad Underwood another mid-major was in our sights and is burnin it up at Illinois. 😏

I’m not the one claiming mobs supported my viewpoint. Should be easy...click click share.

Most people on this board thought UT being ranked 13th preseason in the SEC before 17-18 was silly. I said it, a ton of others said it. I’m not wasting my time pulling up old threads for that, especially you. You can choose to believe it or not or use the search feature.

Maybe ranked 13th being silly but MOST didn’t see us winning the regular season title and even less would have bet on us winning 20+. Look it up.

Absolutely. And Barnes absolutely deserves credit for the results.

Correct. But you forgot to add the part where they'll say "I knew ole Bama Jeremy was a bust from day 1. We are UT and could have backed up the truck for any coach in the nation. But Fulmer went cheap as usual".
