He was taking gift cards meant to go to cancer patients because they were less traceable. So not even research but stealing from people suffering from cancer who needed financial assistance from the foundation he was in charge of. And it's not like he didn't have his own money. He was president of a large organization that I'm guessing paid him fairly well.In my benefit of the doubt moment, I hope boosters were routing money through the organization intentionally to go to the players and this guy wasn’t literally taking money designated for cancer research
The details of Funes’ embezzling are quite wild. He was the CEO and president for the Our Lady of the Lake hospital system’s foundation and stole the half-million over a period of seven years. He took gift cards that were for people with cancer and also paid for trips to LSU and New Orleans Saints football games.
