Everyone has passed us by in the East. It's going to be a slow climb.

Just getting 6 wins this year would be a outstanding coaching job. Anyone shooting for more than that is delusional.
Unless it happens...then they be PROPHETS. 😉

So I read the title of this thread and got excited, thinking we must be in the top five or something of the like, considering even during the Dooley and Butch years we landed some top-ten classes. Then I go over to 247 and see we're ranked...

27?

And there are UT fans that think that's good?

We're ranked behind the likes of Northwestern, Georgia Tech, and Wake Forest. That is not good by any standard remotely related to football at the University of Tennessee.
Not for a FINAL ranking. Until then...😴

I just keep getting older and Vols Football, has sucked for over a decade, Damn looks like I need start drinking again ...……………..GO VOLS

I say, fella, you're as subtle as an exploding hand grenade in a barrel of oatmeal. Personally, I think we're in for a positive season. Along the way, however, we will see strange sights and illogical wonders. In short, it's going to be a fairly good season and never boring. Keeping us nailed to the edge of our seats almost every game.

How on earth do we have a lot of momentum? And what constitutes a “good one” in your mind? Last I saw we were like 34th or something. To compete for the sece we need to be pulling in top 10 (fringe top 5) classes regularly. I don’t see that happening at the moment

Losing eight games for the first time in the hundred-plus-year history of the program is by definition sucking; not much way to spin that otherwise. And if you think that 2016 team remotely compared to Peyton's best teams, go back and look at what level of bowls those teams played in and compare that to the Music City Bowl, which at one point in time would have been viewed by our staff as a major insult just that that's where we ended up.

Yikes, your analysis of what was said hits about as far from the mark as possible.

Til Pruitt gets fired or lands a QB, I don't see winning seasons on our horizon.
You can always go root for Clemson,Georgia,Florida or Alabama. It would be a lot better if all the extremely moronic debbie downers would quit pretending they're Tennessee fans and just go root for someone else!

I would like to know how UT has momentum in recruiting as well. I was hoping that the OP was going to share some evidence of this "momentum" when I opened the thread, but I was dissapointed in that regard. Anybody got anything other than our staff recruited well at other programs?

With a little luck, a healthy Trey Smith, Brandon Kennedy, Solomon and Gibbs, I can see this team winning 8 games and being competitive in most all games
Injuries will again determine how much success the Vols achieve this year

Pruitt has the recruiters in place. We just need to win and show we’re headed in the right direction. This year is the make or break year for Pruitt imo.
I don't think it's a make or break year for Pruitt. I do think his team will show more on the field this year. Next year will be a major step forward. I do think we will win 7 or 8 games this year.

Pruitt is a lot like Dabo, much more genuine and likable than Saban and Kirby smart. It Is going to be a process but he can bring Tennessee back to greatness. We have to be patient even though it is difficult after the Butch Jones debacle.
You think Dabo is authentic? He seems like an enormous douche. CJP just reeks straight shooter though, for better or worse.

I hate this mentality. I've seen us win a national title, including an amazing run from '94-2004, and the 2015 and 2016 seasons still delivered some of the best moments of my fanhood. I enjoyed the hell out of the gator, outback, and music city bowl wins. We did not suck in 2016 or 2017. We had some bad coaching and a bad break or two, which kept us from 10-12 win campaigns. In 2016 I think Dobbs accounted for like 12 less yards than Peyton's best season at UT. Those teams were ridiculously entertaining.
I think Josh also had 1 more total TD (40) than Peyton did his Sr year. Probably in the top 2 or 3 best seasons for a UT QB and Butch squandered it.
