From what I’ve gathered, the visit went well. Got to town Friday and is here through the afternoon Saturday and into Sunday. Obviously they’re selling him on taking over everything Grant Williams was able to do last season (their stats from last season aren’t drastically different). Step in to that role and it can be your team, to an extent, as the veteran workhorse in the post to go with veteran guards in Jordan Bowden and Lamonte Turner. I think he was also impressed by the thought of spending a year with strength coach Garrett Medenwald, who has a lot to sell after the work he’s done the last four seasons.
I was told Blackshear doesn’t do interviews and keeps things pretty close to the vest. So there likely won’t be any kind of media interview to follow the visit.
The question now is where he goes next and what the timeline for a decision is. Does he visit Kentucky? Can Memphis get him on campus and become a serious player late in the game?
We’ll see. Regardless, sounds like Tennessee is staying in the mix on this one.
