By no means do I feel CBJ did a "good job" but to try and use hindsight to devalue his ability to recruit is just ridiculous to me. Guy was a good/great recruiter, he managed 2 top 10 classes with this damaged brand.

I would still take the current staff over anything Butch had. And I'd personally take the recruiting we're getting now, because Pruitt and staff are proven developmental coaches so their 3 stars can outplay Butch Jones 5 stars because of it.

I'm still not going to try and change history and paint the picture like Butch was a bad recruit simply because he was a poor head coach.

he did more damage to the brand AFTER he got those two classes signed. and it's still being done with more medical retirements THIS off season from his classes. be it development, star gazing, injury rate...whatever....his tenure did more damage to this brand than most actually see, or want to admit in some cases.

Just a difference of opinion, but the 2016 team had enough talent on it to win the East and even the SECCG. Multiple NFL players and 5 stars on that roster. Don't know how else to say it.

He recruited enough talent to be successful and win over the fans, but he lacked in the development department. We don't have to justify anything in hindsight just because our program is still struggling.

but do baseball players really make that? I thought they pretty much all go to the minors and trudge their way up.

Was 1.8 a signing bonus? If so, that would be nuts to decline. If it's some future estimated possible value, I could see declining it.

Totally believable. I fully am convinced Chaney now prefers mobile guys (Fromm, Fields). He may even really want to try his hand with a true qb run option game. He is flexible, but that is one area I'm not sure he's ever fully ventured. Regardless, he clearly sees the benefits of a mobile qb and that makes me very happy.

Baseball contracts are weird. I doubt that was 1.8 as a signing bonus and very unlikely it was guaranteed.

So he might have gotten offered 1.8 but it was tied up in a 4 year deal that required certain requirements to get all the money via incentives.

Would you consider Fromm mobile? I mean he can escape pressure but he's not out there on designed runs much is he?

That is a signing bonus. It would probably be the most he would receive for a while as he moves up. Usually, it takes guys about 6-7 years to make more than the minimum in baseball, but then serious money comes if you are good.

It's an interesting decision. He has to wait 3 years to play college football, so if he is good, he could be drafted in the NFL but depends on how high.

Kyler Murray had an easier decision by giving back most of his $5 million signing bonus because he knew he was going to be drafted very high in the NFL.

Some first round signing bonuses are ridiculous. That is a ton of money to turn around. Unlike the NFL, all of the contract is guaranteed in MLB. Here are some of last year's first round picks:

It would also seem the UGA fans were right regarding HB and Chaney during his time as OC there. Oh, the horror.
