Tennessee Vols Basketball Recruiting

If I make 10 guess Bowden is in every one of them it’s just a question of whether he is going to play the 2 or 3.

Imo day one the lineup will be.

Turner-1
Bowden-2
Johnson-3
Pons-4
Fulky-5

I don’t expect it to stay that way I just expect Barnes to favor the returners early in the year and I think Pons will play more 4 than 3 this season

I was actually thinking there's a possibility James doesn't start when the season begins. Especially if he's as raw offensively as some have suggested.

What's laughable is that your buddy said he couldn't "shoot a basketball to save his life" and the stats show that you're both full of crap.
I don’t have any ‘buddies,’ buddy.
Double down on that stat line.
FT 43%
If Pons were actually that quality of a shooter, he’d have gotten a lot of minutes. I guess Barnes didn’t know what he was doing when he cut his minutes. Take it up with him.

This isn’t going to be a year where the starting line up is consistent like last year. Lots of changes from game to game are coming like Barnes first few years imo

If Plasvic gets a waiver and is eligible, what are the chances that he and Kent become our starting post players?

Pons & Kent were in the same class. If I was basing it purely on returners and length of time in the system.

Turner (1st off bench-James)
Bowden (1st off bench-Jalen)
Pons (1st off bench-Jalen
Fulky (1st off bench-ORN/Burns)
Kent (1st off bench Plavis/Burns)

Something to keep in mind, not sure any of them take the option...but after this 2019-20 season Turner, Bowden, Fulkerson, Jalen Johnson could all graduate this season the last two are both RS-Juniors (like Turner was last year when he graduated). I don't expect Fulkerson to grad transfer though, he's a native TN guy and will likely want his "senior" season here. Jalen Johnson though I could see him potentially taking advantage to play closer to home and get more playing time depending on how this year goes.

If Plasvic is eligible then at least one of them will start at Center I think, we may see them both on the court at times depending on matchups but I doubt both start. Burns has a full year in with Barnes now and was a .9561 and #108 ranked player coming out, if he's in shape he'll be getting minutes in the post along with Fulkerson be very surprised if one of them isn't starting at the 4.

Agree with the rotating starters as well, this year we'll see a lot of different lineups.

By Minutes
30+ guys: Bowden & Turner
25+ guys: Fulkerson & James
20+ guys: Pons & Jalen

Then we'll probably have 4 or more getting near 12-15 a game. If Plavsic is eligible he'll likely be in the same group as Pons/Jalen. Last season we had 4 with 31 or more a game and 2 others with 23+ a game. I expect less with 30+ minutes and to see more than 8 guys average over 10 this year. At least early on, he may "find" a lineup he likes though and we see changes in minutes for SEC/end of season.

Your buddy likes your posts.

Check his stats before he lost his starting job. Very respectable shooting at that point

Imo he lost his mojo when he was taken out of the starting lineup.
Just not very mentally tough
He lost confidence, no doubt. He actually can shoot. Might be the most athletic guy in the conference. We will see if Rick can work his magic.

40) Victor Bailey Jr., 6-4, 180, G, Soph., Oregon
Stats: 7.4 ppg
Scout’s take: “I thought Dana Altman should have played him more. He has the size and can shoot it. I wouldn’t be surprised if he becomes a key player wherever he lands.”
Schools: N/A

Pulled from a Jeff Goodman article. I think the Scout's take is encouraging. But if that's the case why is he only the ranked the 40th best sit out guy. Just feels kinda contradicting in a way.
There are probably good reasons why Altman didn't play him more.

Which would mean the 2021 class you'd be replacing them, correct? I could have my years mixed up...but I thought if they graduate after 2020-21 then the 2021 class would be where the spots would be open.

Admiral/Kyle played 2018-19...their spots are free for the 2019 class.

Now I'm confused.
Maybe I misunderstood your intent, but it made it sound like this year (19-20) we will have those five guys, but next year (20-21) we might only have James. I was just pointing out Johnson and Pons will be here in 20-21 unless they transfer. If you were speaking about 2021-22, then you are correct, but that wasn’t how I understood it in your post.

VQ reiterating that taking Bailey doesn’t effect Tennessee with the 2020 class, they will oversign and not turn away their top targets, hmmm.
I guess there are two schools of thought to this.

#1. There is a hard cap of 13 scholarships, and Bailey is taking the place of an existing member of the team and not a 2020 freshman because everything in this scenario is viewed as a 1 to 1 relationship.

#2. There is a soft cap of 13 scholarships, and even if you believe that Bailey is taking the spot of an existing member of the team who won’t return for the 2020-21 season and we will oversign in the fall for the 2020 class, that oversigned spot could still have gone to an additional 2020 freshman. In that sense, it seems like Bailey took the spot of a 2020 freshman.

Scenario #2 seems to revolve around the idea that one believes the staff would only choose to oversign for a sit-out transfer, not an additional 2020 freshman.
