Tennessee Vols Basketball Recruiting

thankfully we don’t just recruit based on simple stat lines. I don’t think there’s a ton of difference between the 2 but see more potential w the rising soph than the rising jr.

Nor do we simply recruit simply based on a kids name either, unless you’re Butch Jones.

Maybe, but I’m guessing a good chunk of that has to do with both players previous recruiting rankings.

Yeah if told Player A had an extra year I'd go that route.

Not really, like I said I like the potential of Grimes better. Also against the better opponents on Oregon’s schedule Bailey was pretty terrible. I actually watched a lot of Oregon games this year and the guy never stood out whatsoever. I guess he’s transferring because he knows it will be more of the same next year

How about I know Bailey and his family and he’s got the type of character we’re looking for? Both his parents were elite level athletes. He hung around the gym the last couple years I was at Texas and I found him very coachable. I feel confident I can develop him into an SEC caliper player especially with the red shirt season?

That's certainly a big positive

Same for Grimes? Gonna get passed over at Kansas?

You are on the staff???

I just now realized this kid has played 2 years. I thought this was freshmen year so I am
Not as excited about him now

Except he played more than Bailey, and is a freshman. More potential there
Or maybe should’ve done more with the minutes he got?

All I was saying was that it wasn’t as big a margin as many would think at first glance, and my blind resume with folks picking Bailey proved that.

The more I think about it the more I like Bailey.

As a (mature) senior he will be in his 3rd year in this system. JJJ is more likely than not being gone in 2021-22 as would a Springer or an equivalent big-time recruit.

We're not likely to play more than 10 players in a regular rotation in any one year. A player or 2 sitting out 2019-20 won't be a disaster assuming injuries don't destroy the roster.

Bailey will be a tremendous asset in practice this year. He won't be a disgruntled guy mad that he's not getting more playing time. He won't be a little used upperclassman, inexperienced freshman, or a non-SEC quality walk-on. He's a skilled player that can be 100% focused on giving the best possible look at upcoming opponents as a member if the scout team.

It spreads out classes of contributing backcourt players. With a grad transfer we'd lose Bowden, Turner, and a GT guard all at once (of course if a grad transfer was taken, the bigger need is in the front court). Then JJ and possibly JJJ exit after 2020-21.

It would be great to sign both Keon and another guard (Springer?), but it's not a slam dunk that 2 four or five stars sign. If 2 top guards want to be in the 2020 signing class, then that's a good problem to have and there's a lot of time to deal with it.

I love that he's a 90% free throw shooter. Having these type of players handling the ball protects every late lead and prevents blowing games down the stretch.

The logic is he hasn’t been a factor in two years under a great coach. That worries me some
Are we talking Bailey? Played on a guard heavy team and even more so next season. Have to look, but what did our 19 minute guys average?

2 years ago Schofield was 8th on the team in mpg and averaged 8ppg like Bailey, just because you don’t play big minutes as a freshman or sophomore doesn’t mean you suck...if he was coming from a crap team that would be one thing, but he’s not.

Again not saying he’s an All-American, but I think they can definitely do worse.

Correct if wrong but his times 30 in scoring is right there with Turner and Bowden and his FT% is higher.

You have to look at the Trend for Bailey. Seeing that his stock was free falling is the highest worry

Admiral was on the serious rise that sophomore year. He’d overcome the suspension and was showing serious signs of what was to come

Agree the way bailey finished the year is disappointing, but that also obviously means the previous games were even better than his season averages.

Again, not expecting a world beater, but I like the addition and think come 2020-2021 we will be glad to have him.
