keep in mind TX wento the sugar bowl and beat UGA. not a couple years ago....5 months ago. and he says "not impressed", and still has UGA in the top 5.

think about that compared to where we are.
I do think UGA was totally unmotivated. That’s what sucks about the playoff system. The bowls really have lost meaning.

well, at least we're not the only ones going thru it.

rich just get richer.
Yep and as the author alluded to, I have so much respect for kids that don't mind the challenge.

The NFL drafts players with skills, their team isn't a requirement.
I DON'T blame kids for wanting to win but I also don't have as much respect for kids that just want the wins to be easy.

Honestly it's really in his hands at this point. This staff isn't shy about shooting kids straight and until they see you in person it's hard to trust 40 times. He lives right here in Knoxville too, so it really makes doesn't make sense he wouldn't camp here, if we're in his top 5.
agreed.

feels like those kids are few and far between these days.

You can have meaningful bowls, or a coherent and fair way to determine a champion, but you apparently can’t have both.

After a few years with the playoff system, I’m honestly not sure which I prefer.

so that thing just sticks out to me....TX goes out and has a season like we'd LOVE to have. say we won 10 games, beat UGA and/or FL, lose the SEC title game and go to the sugar bowl and beat some top 10 caliber program.........

there's not a one of us that would think that WOULDN'T tip the scales back our way in recruiting, especially for kids we've been recruiting at the top of our board for a long time...........

and we're in here talking about winning 7 and playing in Charlotte being a solution?

i'm probably reading too much in to it. but man, i just look at what TX did last season and if they can't capitalize............

they must have sucky recruiters on their staff. lol.

imo they thing they screwed up by going to the 4 team play off is HOW they determine the 4.

i think most people were ok with the BCS formuala system...the problem was only that 2 teams could play, and we had plenty of years where there wasn't a ton of difference in the top 4 teams in the BCS. especially if the underdog won the NT game. #3 was sitting there like "we could beat that team!!"...lol.

i think they should have kept the BCS formulas and just let the top 4 play it off. i hate the committee. and i think to some degree we've devalued the regular season, which has always been the best part of college football. every game matters. well, not so much anymore. p5 conf champions left out, while teams that don't even win divisions get in.

anyway.

Smells like one of two things: kid is trying to manufacture drama, or he really wants to get out of Texas.

Didn’t list TAMU either.

yeah. i know i'm probably making more of it than i should. it just stuck out to me. and i don't know enough about his recruitment to TX specifically to really have an opinion.

the click bait got me i guess.

As already noted, Elijah Young has an offer. Most local kids take a lot of unofficial visits to UT; Young doesn't. So he doesn't have the strong relationships other recruits do.

He was a smaller back and the coaches are looking for bigger backs. He's added about 10-12 pounds since last year, so the coaches want to re-evaluate him and check his speed and agility at his new size. He's been asked to workout with the coaches on campus this summer, but hasn't committed to doing that.

He plays multiple positions on offense and defense in HS, but wants to play tailback in college. Pruitt likes versatility and prefers two-way players. The coaches want to move players around and decide where they'll play once they're on the team; if a player is less flexible than others, that could move him down the board.

And Young has said he wants offers from other schools, especially Bama, and plans to take visits this summer. He's considering other schools. UT's considering other RBs. We're probably only taking two RBs and being a hometown kid isn't going to get him that spot.
Thank you so much. Now we can stop accusing the coaches of being lazy and stop bragging that he was begged to commit but is still making up his mind.

Exactly what we were discussing. It's one thing to make sure you have a legit chance at winning and thus, enjoyment.
It's another to require it and it must be gift wrapped. It's ruining the parity and excitement CFB once was.
I try to always be open minded but there's no changing my mind on this one. Just too little "bring it on" attitude these days. Just the bandwagon and gang up mentality.

I know "get off my lawn"😅

You guys seem to take everything a recruit says as gospel. This may just be his way of saying that TX bagman isn't offering anything close to what UGA bagman is offering.

I'm afraid the playoff system has created a situation where top recruits want to pick from the top 4, maybe 6, teams that are almost assured of getting in at least every other year so they can then compete for a title. This assures those teams will continue to get those players.

yeah, but here's the thing...he didn't commit anywhere, just listed his top 5. he's not even considering TX.....and he gave his reason why they won't get another look.

Plus, one recruit's statement is nothing compared to the undeniable class rankings each yr.
Facility upgrades didn't suddenly made Dabo the most liked coach in the nation.

Amazing how the trophy case gave Clemson "the family environment" so quickly 😏

it certainly helps....and they got that slide...........

i'm not certain how great a recruiter Herman and co. are anyway. though you'd like to think that being at UH for a stint and being from the area, he'd have more crediblity amongst recruits, especially big time kids from freaking HOUSTON.

i'd be a pretty salty TX fan i guess?? lol.

It’s lazy if that’s a stipulation in order to offer a kid. We throw offers out like hot cakes.

I'm not in agreement here Hank. I think the coaches using camps for evaluation and making commit-able offers contingent on seeing them in person makes a ton of sense. In my opinion, it helps to weed out kids who feel like they don't have to 'prove it'. I'm watching closely the kids who refused to go through this process last year to see how they develop, as that will be interesting to me to see if we truly missed out on elite talent, or dodged a bullet by having kids on the team who don't mesh with the culture being established.

I may be wrong in my thought process, but to me the kids who are willing to go through this process, truly want to be in Orange and White, and aren't afraid of the competition to earn their spot. Fact of the matter is, we see numerous examples each year of "can't miss" prospects who don't develop for whatever reason, and with the transfer portal in play now I think it's especially important to measure the "want too" and mental aspect of these recruits. I just feel that this process will help the program rebuild much faster than say...Butch's highly ranked classes of paper tigers.

South-Doyle alum here. Watched every game of Elijah Young's career at SD so far. That kid is a legit FBS player, but I've had questions about if he can be a RB in the SEC. I think he's better off being a slot receiver, but it looks like he's determined to play RB, and he's doing his best to achieve that. He's up over 180 pounds now and still ran a flat 4.5 second 40. He has really good vision out of the backfield, and he played well even when South-Doyle played some of the better competition the last few years (Farragut, Central, and the like). SD's offensive line was horrendous last year and he still looked good when he was healthy. He battled an ankle issue and still led the team in rushing in 8 games with about 700 yards. He's also really good on special teams. He should be the team's top weapon on offense this year with Tonquez Ball gone to Tulane, so expect to see more from him as a senior.

Because we pass out offers like hot cakes. Not every player we’ve offered has been here. Also just bc you hold an offer doesn’t make it a commitable one. It’s more just a respect thing. To show a player that you are legit interested
We have offered..
