Those stories are true. That place was off the charts. I still believe some people were paid off to look the other way with what went on inside those walls.

Aaron Beasley

When he gets to campus on May 28, he’ll get to work at safety, the position he prefers.

“Aaron is guy that played tailback on his high school team, rushed for probably 1,800 yards, but also played both ways at defensive back,” Pruitt said when Beasley signed in December. “They won a state championship. Aaron can play multiple positions, he can be a running back, he can be a linebacker.

“But we’re going to play him at defensive back and we’re glad that we have him on our team.”

Between then and now, Beasley said he’s splitting up his training sessions between weights, conditioning and on-field work.

“Just getting ready to go to college,” Beasley said. “Making sure I’m in the best shape I can be.”

And talking to his new position coach.

“I talk to Ansley a bunch,” he said. “At least once a week.”

Beasley said he was around 220 or 225 pounds this time last year, but now is back down to 210 and feeling the benefits.

“So I feel better,” he said, “feel lighter.”

Now all that’s left to do is graduate, say his goodbyes in his hometown and get to work in Knoxville.

Giving you a like for good discourse.

Idk, I think education is one of the last things that should be cut, whether it's arts, foreign language, or (obviously) STEM. Within any given budget, I'd be looking at alternatives outside the school system to cut if I could.

We want a strong economy of doers and entrepreneurs, they're going to need a spark in something else if algebra, biology, and computer science doesn't do it. And while we're at it, bring back home-ec and make it mandatory for everyone.

Seeing how illequipped adults around me are in the workforce would be surreal if it weren't so damn scary. We don't gain anything from cutting education, even if the surplus is going to something "more pressing" at the time. You know, like a sports arena.

Trade schools were basically a slur until the recession when people found out plumbers and HVAC techs make $30+/hr

Principals aren't the problem (well some are but that's different). The problem is there are more guidance counselors now than ever and they have no flipping idea what they're doing. (If anyone is a guidance counselor sorry but learn to place students better). One of my classes in grad school I was the only teacher in a room full of counselors. I tried to give them the teachers point of view but they looked at me like I grew two heads. Of course in their minds they knew more than I did about what goes on in the classroom.

There are also people who's jobs are to pick a test... That's it. They have no clue what needs to be taught or what is taught. All they do is look at the useless standards and pick a test that they think aligns with that subjects standards. And then there's central office...

Sorry end of year letting off steam lol

I should also say that more principals than not (the then nots are ones who are trying to fast track their way to state DOE) work their tails off for both the students and the faculty. Those principals earn every cent they make and make their schools a better place

Thank you for this reasonable perspective. It is like every time I hear someone say the world is getting worse, it is like they have zero perspective. Some just want to be downers I suspect.

Also, this reminds me so much of Butch. He thought he could get into their minds and be one of them. All he did was ruin his relationship with them and the program with it. Why not just be more like Pruitt, take only the hardnosed workers, and go from there? Butch took a bunch of soft MFers. That one kid left before the season even started because COACHES WERE CURSING. W-O-W.

SiAP, but walk-ons can receive limited-term (< 1 year) scholarships. His would have to be renewed for next season and given he's never really going to play, it seems unlikely it would be, unless we just happen to end up under 85 for some reason.

If I had to guess, we just happened to have 1 extra counter for the Spring semester due to graduates and not filling up all 85 spots with EEs. Given we had an extra spot, it wouldn't make sense to not give someone a 1-term scholarship.

It’s amazing what kids DON’T learn in school these days. I’m not too far removed from the HS/College years and I didn’t learn crap about things that help make you successful on a day to day basis.

Working on cars, fixing things around the house, personal finance/budgeting, home ec, etc

Had to learn them all on my own time and was lucky enough to have people in my life who knew and were willing to teach me. Some don’t have that luxury.

Yes, the signing period is merely for LOIs, which aren't necessary at all. It is just so ingrained in peoples' minds that you would think everyone has to do it. Anyone can just wait, sign a FAA and enroll.
