To be honest, it's not a problem in the society either. Trying to call out the kids as "fickle" or "soft" because they chose to change their mind is stupid.

Anyone to blame it's the NCAA. You throw out a 2nd signing period before the season is even over you're going to have more decommitments. And it's not likely to change, you're also going to see the transfer portal get more traffic I think. Sign with school who then fires it's staff and you're the bad guy wanting to transfer when the new staff comes in with an entirely different scheme?

I honestly hate the early signing period, legit see no reason for it.
They really just need to flip some of the terminology. Players shouldn’t sign a National Letter of Intent, they should sign a National Letter of Commitment. When they tell a coach they are going to a school prior to signing, they should be giving the coach their Intention. People are so worked up over the semantics of “commitment” when it’s just a part of the ingrained process that everyone has been working within for decades. Maybe that would stop this “society problem” Mumbo jumbo.

In SoCal teachers get paid pretty well but in LA, SD or OC the cost of living is high. But there are cheaper places to live where they still pay well. Out in Palm Springs a BA and no experience starts in the 50s and if you max out the education and experience reqs you're in six figures. Not shabby for 180-some work days in a year. Of course, out there you'd be living in a desert too. But I guess if you're a teacher you can spend a couple summer months somewhere else with reasonable temps.
Yeah California is a different story. Sure helps the budget out when you aren’t scared of certain plants.

My worthless opinion:
Don't like early signing day.
If the intent is to get coaches etc.. away, just have a non contact rule recruits can enact..

Kids change their minds and coaches leave. Don't entice them to lock themselves in a corner even earlier.

I think its mostly for EE's. I also think kids should be able to sign anytime once their senior year starts. Would wipe commitments out entirely. Make sure you are sure when you sign though because my rules would be you can't transfer for two years after you sign.

So...how did the EEs go about getting on campus before the Early Signing Period?

Pretty sure you can sign papers and enroll without being "signed", can't you?

All clogged up?

Between the former nightclub turned church and the Purple Church (aka Mount Moriah Performing Arts Center aka Platinum Plus), I spent plenty of time at church in HS.....

I have some colleagues who went to University of Memphis back in the 90s. The stories I've heard about Platnium Plus are incredible.

Nashville radio had him on this morning about this. He came off as a real grade A douche bag. All he did for 5 min straight was try and **** on UT.

Well, I guess if you can beat UT with the best team you have had in 40 years while UT has one of the worst in its history, then try and sh*t on them another way.

Fortunately, preseason All-SEC does not mean much. If we can get more guys on the postseason team, I will be happy.

I'm about to get on my soapbox, y'all.

Teachers are saints and don't get enough credit. They're tasked for basically raising other people's kids for 8 hours out of every day, and for some of those kids, are the only adult role models available to guide them. And the joke was already made that they're overwhelmingly underpaid to do so.

But let's not blame the kids for having the issues they do.. and let's be a little slower to judgment for parents who we think 'aren't doing their best job'.. There are so many stressors out there economically, medically, psychologically, that a high-functioning family unit is rare in a lot of areas-- urban, suburban, and rural.

This country has a whole lot of healing to do, and that doesn't happen by calling kids wimps, demonizing parents, or underpaying teachers.
My wife is a 9th grade science teacher. Your post is beyond legit. Thank you.
