you've apparently forgotten the cash and media love that comes with it.

yeah, the media was really loving ohio state after those two beat downs in the championship game. as well as that love for oklahoma after usc destroyed them. as a fan, that cash really wouldn't benefit me much.

Both of those teams were top 10 the next seasons. They also pulled in phenomenal recruiting classes.

Playing for the National Championship is a lot like making the final table at the WSOP Main Event. Even the losers get paid and show that they've done a helluva lot right.

many schools have had great recruiting classes without being in the bcs championship game. preseason polls mean little. losing the championship game should not be a goal a team begins the season with.

many times it shows their regular season schedule. i'll take auburn's undefeated season and sugar bowl victory over the beating that oklahoma took in the championship game anyday.

Look where those two programs are now. Who's done more since 2004? Who is undoubtedly superior right now?

neither has a championship. oklahoma's last undefeated season was 2000, auburn's 2004. oklahoma has a couple conference championships but i would argue auburn would have to if they played in the big 12.

Auburn was good again in 2005. The last two years the offense was so bad they wouldn't have handled OU and probably not Texas. There has been one team to repeat as BCS Champions. There have been zero coaches that have won it twice. You can't really bust Stoops' chops for that.

their defense would have gave them a chance, ask florida. i am not sure how this has anything to do with oklahoma getting ridiculed by usc in prime time and auburn going undefeated. i'll take auburn's season over oklahoma's. i'll take usc's and that trophy over auburn's.

But neither won a championship so they are evidently both losers. Here's a thought: Auburn absolutely did not start the season with the goal of winning a National Championship. Otherwise, they'd have scheduled a decent out of conference foe.

i am not busting his chops. i just think that he is overrated. i'll never say that he isn't a good coach, i just think that there are better.

You're choosing odd things to call him out on. He, along with every other human being on the planet, has failed to win 2 BCS National Championships.

i agree that their ooc schedule was weak, but their conference schedule was better than most.

that's great. however, there are guys out there who can win in the regular season and win the bowl games. i would go after those guys first if i was an ad.

I would be curious to know who out there has a better resume.

that is exactly the point that i have been trying to make.

He won a national championship and has his team winning conference championships with nearly unprecedented regularity while consistently being a threat to win NC #2.

look at his bowl record as a whole. he will play for a chance at that unprecedented 2nd trophy this year. his team will have to be better prepared for this bowl game, however.

as was florida state before the conference added a little more competition.

I could pick 10 games out of Pete Carroll's career that make him look like an awful coach. If they get to a championship game this year they'll be competitive. In 2004 they simply ran into a much better team and Adrian Peterson was hurt.

I don't think the added competition is really the problem for the Noles. The FSU teams from the nineties would still be winning the ACC every year. These guys just got done losing to UK.
