Arrogance, entitlement, and can predict the future. I don't know exactly what will happen with Memphis. The thing that SHOULD happen is for Memphis to be Top 3 the next few years. However, my instincts tell me Memphis' favorite son will not be Memphis' favorite son for too long.there's a stench of arrogance with this post. You guys do have a top class coming in but you guys better hope to keep some of these top prospects 3-4 years. HOU runs the AAC
So where are we?
AS and KA graduated. Bone and Williams leave for pro ball. Walker, Jr. transfers. Plus there were only 12 on scholarship instead of 13 in 2018-19. 6 open spots.
Add:
James
Pember
Gaines
Nkamhoua
Plavsic (not finalized)
open spot
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
2020
departing:
Turner
Bowden
committed:
Corey Walker
open spot
So, excluding additional transfers, is it correct that we have one open spot in each of the next 2 classes?
Right now we are full with GW and Bone still out there, obviously both are 100% gone next year even if they return, Bowden and Turner as well...so 4 spots, Plavsic would take 1 and Walker Jr. 1 spot next year...so that leaves 2 more spots, could be this year or next.
I would say Keon is more likely than Springer, but Vols are in a good spot with both.Looks like we have 2 spots in this and the next cycle combined and the Bone/Williams situations will determine which year. I think that both are gone. I'd love to see a grad transfer added this year that can mix it up in the paint and Keon Johndon and Springer added in 2020. Then there are 3 spots in 2021 with Pons/Fulk/Johnson graduating plus additional spots depending on if Josiah/Keon/Springer blow up. I'd like to know how likely it is that Keon and Springer could be added in 2020.
I wonder if CRB holds a spot open until 5/29 for either Bone or Williams or if TN will try to fill it if somebody is available.
Penny picked his staff well.
2007 NBA COY Sam Mitchell handles the Xs and Os...Mike Miller is 'the recruiter'...former Ole Miss Assoc HC/Interim HC Tony Madlock handles the day to day running of a college basketball program.
that allows Penny time to be the face of the program, run practice, and recruit Memphis kids.
Get back to me at the END of the 2019-2020 season, and we'll have a conversation then. I have no interest in what you think you will do. The proof is in the pudding. If you don't make the Final Four, your team underachieved according to your projections. If you make it, I'll give you props. Big Brother will be watching.Penny picked his staff well.
Yes, Penny doesn’t have to be a good coach to be successful. He just has to not have such a big ego that he allows himself to be surrounded with people who are smarter than he is with regards to their specific area of responsibility. As the face of the program, his name power alone allows him to walk away smelling like a rose as long as he doesn’t attempt to micromanage their duties.Penny picked his staff well.
Walker Kessler’s recruitment has been one of the more interesting ones to follow over the past several months. The five-star big man in the 2020 class flirted with the idea of moving up in the 2019 class and had some of the top programs in the country extend offers his way. Last month, he put to bed the possibility of going to college next year and will stay in the 2020 class. That hasn’t stopped the college coaches from beating down his door. During the April recruiting period, he had in-home visits with Auburn, Duke, Michigan and Gonzaga, though Michigan is now conducting a coaching search after John Beilein's departure for the NBA. He’s also still hearing from Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee, Vanderbilt and Virginia regularly.
-RivalsWith Kessler staying in the 2020 class, it opens his recruitment back up a little bit more as it allows new schools to potentially join the mix. Coaching changes have already shuffled up his list with Vanderbilt firing Bryce Drew and Beilein departing Michigan for the NBA. Kessler said he hasn’t crossed any schools off his list yet and will likely wait until October to release a top five in hopes of having a decision by the early signing period in November. Until the summer passes by, it’s going to be really hard to handicap his recruitment as so much will change, but it’s probably a safe bet that Auburn, Duke, Gonzaga and Virginia will remain in this one until the end.
