Recruiting Forum Football Talk [RIP 9.3.2019]

I know many people are fatalists when it comes to the Florida game this year but I can’t bring myself to concede that game. In looking at the recent history of our matchups I think a number of people would argue we should have won more than 1 out of the past 5. In an earlier post I stated that we have to beat Florida this year. The reason I think that is is if we don’t they are likely to develop a sustained recruiting advantage over us. It’s been suggested that they’ve always had more talent than us but if that’s the case then why are the games often so close? I think last year we were young and turned the ball over 6 times. The way we improve as a football team is we begin by beating Florida, this year. If we do that, I think we can take care of MSU, SC, KY, MO & VU. jmo.

Obviously, I hate Florida with an unbridled passion so I apologize if my obsession is annoying to anyone.

I think Florida has recruited more talent the majority of classes but I believe there has been other factors.
1.Our classes usually have been within 5 spots of theirs (often 2-3 spots) which is virtually a non factor. Except when so many from our classes leave or medically retire.
Last year's talent gap was very real.

2. Despite their poor coaching decisions, we've proven that ours can be worse. Almost like we were intentionally going
"I see your McElwain and raise you a Jones".

In the past, I never had the dread others have shown. Unfortunately, I'm more concerned now that they have Mullen. I believe he is a real coach that just needed recruits handed to him. UF is a perfect fit.

The unknown - Pruitt COULD end up being even better. The lines have been drawn, no way around it for several years.
Let's ride.

We’re gonna beat UF this year. Young stars on defense gonna make some plays.

Why are we struggling so much in early recruiting this year or we just waiting until the end of the year like almost every year? FSU, Georgia Tech, North Carolina all in the top 10. I know it's early but doesn't seem to hold back Clemson Georgia, LSU, Bama, Miami, Florida, etc...

We're not struggling. Commitments will come starting this month thru August. Just like last year.

I hope so because seems like we are getting further and further behind every one else. LSU is killing it this year and might be signing the number 1 CB in the country too and so is Clemson, Bama and Georgia. I know we didn't make a bowl game and had a losing record but so did Florida State, North Carolina and both Miami Canes and Georgia Tech wasn't exactly world beaters either so that excuse is lame.

I understand Pruitt is all business like and doesn't like the fancy uniforms, rap music and gimmicks and such that goes in recruiting but this isn't how these kids minds work these days. I'm sure everything will work out like last year in recruiting, I just thought by now we would have been further ahead in recruiting then last year since they had a year in the program already to build relationships with kids.

Lol this is fun

Last thing ill add. If your idea of fun is sitting up late, ridiculing, belittling, and putting yourself up on some sort of materialism based high horse - all to make yourself feel better, and, because you derive enjoyment from it, you may wanna reevaluate some things.

I dont know much, but, i've been there. When that house of cards comes crumbling, it happens quick, and, you better be prepared. In whatever way you need to be.

Best of luck.

Still waiting for that commitment.

Pretty sure he didnt just forget how to recruit 18 year old kids in the last 3 years.

Haven't checked NC but look at the GA and Florida schools and see where their recruits are from.
Yes TN has a lack of loyalty from in state kids but that's not Pruitt's fault.
It's reality and for you to call it a lame excuse suggests that you're more determined to worry, than to have your question answered 😕

Very few of our targets have actually committed elsewhere. We are in a pond filled with fish, just waiting for the big ones to bite

Using a losing record and no bowl game last year is an excuse in my opinion and Vol fans like to use about every year from Dooley to now Pruitt. Every year it's "we coming" for last 6-7 years which is the joke SEC fans like to use about our Vols every year. It's now time to finally put up or shut up!!!! I'm not expecting to win a natty within next 3-5 years but I do want to see improvement over next 5 years mainly with starting to at least beat Florida every other year.

Look at Oregon last year with Mario. He killed it in recruiting top 10 coming off one of the worse years Oregon had in years and got their head coach fired and Mario hired. LSU, North Carolina, Georgia Tech, Miami are all having great recruiting so far out the gates along with the usual Clemson, Bama, Ohio State, etc..

Great point, nick.

@CeJayVols Most of our targets are committing this summer or later, we've missed on only a few and a guy like Jarrett is likely to flip anyway. Our top targets who should be committing this summer or later are...Rogers, Ratledge, Morris, Mays, Hardy, Rybka, Cowan, J Williams, EJ Williams, Roy, Washington, Capers, Lawrence, Hodge, Baron, Ojulari, Abrams-Draine, and many more. If a bunch of these guys commit elsewhere this summer then we might be in trouble. But most of these guys will be Vols sooner than later, IMO.

Who’d we have locked up this time last year?

I really hope so. Time will tell I guess. Just frustrating seeing all these other teams getting their share this early and seems we can't buy a recruit right now! I thought we would have had at least two kids commit during the orange/white game at least Tennessee kids and I was disappointed nothing came out of it except a 2 star and whatever the kid was that committed.
