These draft stats are getting annoying.

Before you know it, “Mrs. Kerplowski’s 8th grade pre Algebra class in 2010 had more draft picks than Tennessee, with Jonathan Fartterking going late in the 8th round from Hofstra
There does seem to be a competition to see who can come up with the most inventive way to point out our suckiness.

When my stepdaughter was taking a legal class at TWU, I watched my grandson three mornings a week. Messed up my morning nap and my whole body chemistry...I’m only 49!

When I say "only 44", my kids have a good laugh. I may as well be a flip phone, closing in on landline status to them 😐

The first table is a fill in the blank exercise. Franks and Guarantano are both going into their third year as a starting quarterback. Franks lost 7 of his 8 top offensive linemen from last year but he has good quality at all the skill positions. Guarantano probably has to at least replace both Tackles but he has two 5-star candidates for those jobs and regardless of who starts anywhere on his line they would either be returning starters or have to beat out 6 guys returning from last year, each with multiple starts already in their careers. He has pretty decent skill position players at every spot on his offense.

The second table is still looking at scoring offense vs scoring defense just against conference opponents and how those metrics may affect the won-loss record in conference play. I think it’s particularly worth noting the progression of Drew Lock from his freshman year in 2015 to his junior year in 2017. Jake Bentley started in 2016 and he too has a progression worth looking at.

Offenses score points but more often than not as long as the offense isn’t atrocious defense wins games. Even if we can get the 3rd year bump on offense up to around 30-34 points/game against our conference opponents we will still need to get the number of points we’re giving up on defense down to the 24-27 range if we’re thinking 8-4 or 9-3. Is this doable? There’s a number of teams in this 4-year table that significantly improved their scoring defense from one year to the next. Of course every team has its own unique situation and the cross-over games in the conference are different for every team so I guess we’ll see. I can’t imagine that we’re not going to significantly improve in our scoring metrics this year, on both sides of the ball. jmo.
