All that is fine.

But how do you think it would go if you went to your boss right now and told them you had another job lined up but at the end of the day they didn’t pay as much as you wanted?

It may work out fine - especially if you’re a good employee your boss wanted to keep.

But you better believe they’re making a mental note of it. And if your performance starts to lag - it would very likely be used against you.
I did exactly the same thing recently at a place where I have worked 29 years. They upped the ante. I stayed. They were ecstatic.

I sort of got away from Church people when I went into the Navy. My home port was in California so I guess that wasn’t to be unexpected. The strangest things that have happened in my life however were not lost on me. I probably shouldn’t say anything about it but I will because it affected my perception of the world. There were times along my journey where I was really up against it. I had no idea and no options for a next move. And then, even before the last moment, I, you might say, got this “Godsend”. To me it was miraculous and and still is and there’s no way I deserved such a gift and it happened several times over the course of my life. I mean I didn’t understand it at all but I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been driving down the interstate and opening my mind to some something out beyond the the realm of “reality” and meekly uttering the words, “Thank you.”

I believe, that's all I ever tell anyone who ask me about God. Maybe I'm not fellow-shipping to the standards of this church or that church. Maybe I'm not the best example of a Christian in the eyes of so many...I don't know. I have more questions than answers most days with my faith, but I have on many occasions asked and been given the answer I needed to hear in the moment. Sometimes it was simple went out for a drive because I'm upset and a very specific song with lyrics directly related to my situation comes on. Sometimes it's a heaviness on my mind and heart that I ask to be lifted then it's as if instantly a weight is lifted.

Well they should, I'm only at my job because they pay me...if that's not the most shallow form of commitment then I don't what is.

SIAP

I think Ubben's tweet is a bit more clear. Barnes was directly asked about the UCLA buyout, and whether he would have left had they paid it. His response seems honest and fair, in his mind he was prepared to leave if they paid the buyout, felt like since they decided not to that was his sign to stay at UT.
@Bassmaster_Vol simple, isn't it?

This is the right answer to the wrong question.

Narrative matters a lot in college sports. And (miraculously) we ended up on the right side of it this time. UCLA looked like bumbling idiots, and we looked like, as you say, that we were invested in winning.

Job done. Disaster averted.

So with this being the case, it's baffling to me that we would hold a press conference for Barnes to publicly announce that he would have left if UCLA had paid the buyout. Now the narrative becomes, "Ya know, kind of seems like ol' Rick is looking for a way out."

Is that fair? Maybe, maybe not. But that measage is gonna be out there, and it could have been avoided. That's where the frustration lies.

Just seems like another case of UT self-sabotage.
the press conference was to announce Kim English....this wasn't, technically anyway, a rick barnes press conference. it was just to intruduce Kim English...but, as one would expect, Barnes got plenty of questions about the UCLA thing.

i'm not sure most people commenting on this even knew what the press conference was actually for lol.

siap, but i'd advise anyone that has strong opinions on this matter, to watch the whole press conf, and listen to how he answered all of the questions, and listen to everything he said.

it's not near as black and white as "he doesn't want to be here" lol.

Yep, still ridiculous. I won't forget it. I won't care if they win another, either. The NBA sucks pretty bad, IMO.
NBA is a joke of a professional league. I can't stand it. Name another professional sports where the rules change so drastically going from amateur -> professional. Its not even the same game any of us here grew up playing. Tough for me to relate.

If he wins a championship nobody will care. If he fails to make it past the sweet 16 again or win the SEC, people will remember this.
They are going to criticize him regardless of this, if he does not meet their personal expectations. Do you think he cares if they cite this press conference as the source for their diminished support? Coaches get raked over the coals every day that they are at a school. It comes with the territory. Fortunately, for them, they get to laugh all the way to the bank.

Unless we #bbb. Then there’s a lot of evidence we can
There is none. I think you misunderstand what "evidence" means. He ain't coming back, so we will never know. You can conjecture all that you want, but if Bruce came back, there is no guarantee we would be any better. Before our current baseball coach, we hired a coach who had taken UC Irvine to the CWS and who, by all accounts, would kill it here. He was awful. There is simply no way to know. You should know that by now.

I didn't see the presser, so I don't have his precise comments or context. Whatever he said must have been off-script, since Fulmer wouldn't have wanted to underscore that Barnes was halfway out the door. I'm guessing Fulmer hoped to combat the talk of internal tension and show how friendly he and Barnes are and how everybody's rowing in the same direction at UT.

When it comes to UT and pressers, I'm generally of the opinion that releasing written statements is safest.

People don't have the time to actually research something that will inhibit their narrative.

The general consensus from outside the fanbase is it was a "yikes" moment (reddit). In the end it wont matter if he wins games.

Oh definitely not as bad as some of the tweets make it sound, however:
1. 99% will only ever see the tweets; and
2. Even in full context, it was still a dumb thing to say and completely an unforced error. A novice public speaker could have more gracefully dodged that question.

I'm with ya.
I keep seeing posts explaining it's a business and how that's ok.
Not sure anyone suggested otherwise. The rest of us just keep pointing out that the answer (as given) was unnecessary.

Others seem to be answering a concern that was never raised, while going around the point that was.

Just wasn't needed but honestly, I'm sick and stuck at home, just passing the afternoon. As long as he wins, I don't really care if he wears a Bruins shirt while doing so 😀
