The way this was handled Barnes needs to win next year. He doesn't get the benefit of the doubt of a rebuild nowIDT he'll flat-out distrust him, but he'll remember how all this played out. If you're interviewing with a potential employer while your boss is out of town and use that offer to strongarm your boss into going to the top of the foodchain to get you a much better deal, your boss is going to remember that. And when he gets you that deal and you say you're going to need to pray about it and you'll get back to him within 24 hours, he's going to remember that, too. Sure, it's business. But how it was done says something about the person doing it.
Let's just all be glad it's behind us.
Barnes didn’t do anything others wouldn’t have done. Maybe not Phil, but majority of coaches would have made this same leverage play. They’re all mercenaries.
I never liked Rick Barnes. Even less so now.IDT he'll flat-out distrust him, but he'll remember how all this played out. Well, that’s your fault for falling for that. But he always acts like he isn’t like other coaches. He puts on the persona of a straight shooter. The Rick Barnes we came to know isn’t the the one that waits for his boss to go out of town and be distracted and interview without the other school ever receiving permission to speak with him.
