Strictly from a money stance... you take the buyout and you can transfer some of that to the money you will need to keep some of the football staff moving forward. You then hire someone else... Bruce would come in a heartbeat. And you move on...

Yes Barnes is a good coach but I don’t see him ever smoothing this over. We aren’t a basketball school and that’s threatening to Barnes... maybe threatening is the wrong word but it is a problem with how the money is dealt around concerning his staff.

If he ends up going then it’s because of money and power. If he stays all this was for his staff to get more pay.
It is 100% up to Barnes now... we aren’t going to offer more than UCLA. Personally don’t believe he is worth it even if it’s Coach Cal... you win in football the whole state feels it... you win in basketball and people get excited for a little while until football starts up... you pay what makes you money... that’s football 100% of the time...
makes you wonder........

if football was already fully healthy again, how much easier would this decision be?

take it a step further, if you're Phil, do you bite the bullet now, say good bye to rick and understand that in a few years when football is healthy, all the other sports can be the beneficiary then.......and this is just really bad timing for LV's and MBB....given where football is right now.......

If we make him a significant offer and agree to pay his assistants more, I really don't see how anyone could have expected us to do more.
I can’t overstate how good our AD is... I know there were questions concerning him in other sports but this should silence any critics... if there were any left.

So basically Barnes has to leave at this point. He done fudged up
idn about that. optics would be about his salary vs. what was being allocated for asst's....you bump him up to the near $4M range and increase the budget for asst's, i think you can say everyone wins.

if he walks out of this with a deal around $5M, and not much changes on the resources for support, then it looks like a money grab.

and if he leaves.............well, we know what that looks like too.

Is being at a school where basketball is #2 necessarily a bad thing if you’re being as well compensated as Barnes? Seems like the attention and scrutiny at UCLA would go up hugely. Just making the tourney on a yearly basis is good enough to keep most fans happy enough here. 1 sweet 16 appearance in 4 years won’t be enough at UCLA.

Must have misread my post. I said with no inherent meaning. It’s up to ourselves, hopefully with the help of those around us, to find meaning and purpose.

This is my take on all this. I think if we could quantify all the knowledge in the universe it would be like stuffing the universe with 10^119 number of hydrogen atoms. I think I figured out one time that's how many from a volume perspective would fit into what we measure as the observable universe. The sum total of our knowledge and understanding would in my view be represented by just one of those atoms. I figure odds are good there are other civilizations out there. Many are like us and very primitive. I figure about 98% of all primitive civilization end up going extinct for a variety of reasons. Some civilizations are in transition. Some are advanced in their intelligence. I call those guys level III. Level 4 on my scale are super luminas. Their civilizations have survived for millions of years. The highest order civilizations are what I call the immortals. They've existed for hundreds of millions of years. Those guys are very smart. They probably know about what we would suspect is everything that could possibly be known but in reality it probably only represents a few thousand of those Hydrogen atoms.

Now you may be wondering what any of that has to do with meaning and purpose. Nothing. Really. No meaning. No Purpose. Just killing time waiting for Fingers to post the practice report tomorrow.

Well, he never fully invested in updating his tie wardrobe. He still wears some of his Texas orange ties.
100%. Said same thing. In the tournament his ties were Burnt Orange
Hey, it's better than Pruitt...that guy hardly ever wears any shade of orange!

Hmmm, edited because, apparently, sarcasm meters are on the fritz right now (although I do acknowledge that I was the one early on in Pruitt's tenure that posted about him not embracing the orange...I really did feel that way at the time!)
