Rick Barnes has emerged as a serious candidate the for UCLA job, reportedly has interviewed

He’s gonna deal with mediocrity for the next 2-3 seasons if Bone and Grant leave.

UCLA can recruit its own backyard for 5 stars and he can make multiple Final Four runs much quicker than at UT
I agree this team will fall downhill fast in the wake of Grant and Bone leaving. But in fairness Barnes IS responsible for that with mediocre recruiting.

So what are the new details this morning?

I see VQ is saying the meeting last night was about his buyout.

WBIR is saying he has officially been offered the job.

Anything else?

If VQ is correct then it's over imo.

I'm torn about the buyout. If the man doesn't want to be here do you really want him forced to coach here over standing firm on the buyout?

1. Rick Barnes isn't leaving Tennessee for UCLA for anything less than twice his current salary. It just makes no sense from so many angles.

2. It is apparent that people will believe Bruce Pearl is the inevitable next coach at Tennessee until the day he dies.
Six million would do it for Barnes, But I don't think Pearl would come back here after being stabbed in the back by the university having the picture for two weeks and never telling him about it.

I have also been reading that UCLA fans might not be jumping for joy with a CRB hire at their once legendary program. Why? They are looking at his overall NCAA Tourney record of 24-24. Plus factor in all the talent he had in his years at Texas...many 4 and 5 stars...many played or playing significant roles in the NBA...only one Final Four in his resume. Advancing and winning in the NCAA is a crap shoot even with top lottery pick talent. Just ask Coach K!

Sure. But mediocre recruiting at UCLA is 4 stars and no 5 stars.

Absolutely untrue. It was a morning flight up and return flight home yesterday and there was more than just that person there. Seriously y’all need to stop trusting what Tony says

I’m not saying he may not leave but Tony doesn’t know squat

Who else was there? Were you there?

Tony has been right a lot more than he's been wrong, especially recently

I think you underestimate how difficult it is to work in the athletic department for this administration. This is the main reason it takes so long to hire a coach in any sport, candidates are leery of working for these people. Uninterested in maintaining winning sports programs, they have inserted Phil Fulmer to quell the townsfolk and avoid a pitchfork march to the castle, figurehead only. I am sure Barnes is tired of their style already.

If Barne's idea of recruiting these days is a mediocre recruiting than I want a coach here that is going to recruit at high level not an average level.

I know some of the people personally who were there. Tony doesn’t know what he’s talking about. Again Rick may leave but Tony doesn’t know what he’s talking about

I'm sure there were Boosters, assistant coaches and family there. Basilio was eluding to the fact that Fulmer wasn't there, so at least understand the context of what he was saying before bashing a man.

Don't mess around and let's get a Lanier hired within 24 of this thing hitting the presses.

I will say this again for those with trouble hearing. There is no animosity nor hard feelings between Rick and Fulmer. It simply doesn’t exist but you guys have allowed Tony who doesn’t know anything to stir you up into believing so

Again, there were more UT athletic department staffers there then just that one

Fulmer has his plate full trying find a LV coach to replace that dolt Warlick - which should have been done at least 3 years ago

None of those coaches had the credentials of Barnes and Alford alone was able to pull in five 4-5 star kids last year....

I agree it would be a shock if he left, but he’d have a better opportunity atultiple tourney runs at UCLA with the easiness of recruiting and competition vs UT.

After all, the only thing he hasn’t done in his career is win a title and he won’t have that opportunity or a chance at a tourney run for another 3-4 years at Tennessee.
CRB just does not seem like a " good fit" for UCLA, especially the left coast. He would face another rebuilding job and UCLA fans would not be as patient as UT fans were to watch him develop 3 star players over 3-4 years.

I think he stays, but he might be worried about next year if his team plays with Bone, Williams, Schofield, and Alexander gone (offensive production 56 points gone). I might even consider running out the back door.. he will stay because his family is nearby in North Carolina and long term recruiting should carry him even though he just lost his best recuiter/ assistant to Georgia State.
