Rick Barnes has emerged as a serious candidate the for UCLA job, reportedly has interviewed

He’s gonna deal with mediocrity for the next 2-3 seasons if Bone and Grant leave.

UCLA can recruit its own backyard for 5 stars and he can make multiple Final Four runs much quicker than at UT
Final Fours not quite as easy as one would expect. If he has not already done so CRB should speak to his SEC HC counter part Ben Howland. He had UCLA's last run of NCAA's with the last one being 11 years agp in 2008. Their last NCAA Championship was 1995 under Jim Harrick. The UCLA job has been a meat grinder for HC's since the legendary John Wooden left.

None of those coaches had the credentials of Barnes and Alford alone was able to pull in five 4-5 star kids last year....

I agree it would be a shock if he left, but he’d have a better opportunity atultiple tourney runs at UCLA with the easiness of recruiting and competition vs UT.

After all, the only thing he hasn’t done in his career is win a title and he won’t have that opportunity or a chance at a tourney run for another 3-4 years at Tennessee.
ESPN says Oklahoma head coach Lon Kruger is a candidate for the UCLA head coaching job also. I wonder if Lon Kruger would be a candidate for the Tennessee head coaching job if Rick Barnes leaves for UCLA?

If Grant and Bone stay he will -- other than UK, the SEC looks to be down next season, LSU is toast and most of Auburns team is gone

Should be a lot of laughs if Lavar Ball has any more kids.....

Lon Kruger came out and said the reports were wrong and he never even interviewed with UCLA

That has zero to do with it. You have to compare the job to Tennessee’s and the fact he’s 5-6 years away from retirement.

He can go to UCLA and pull in 4-5 stars consistently every season and have a deep team or he can recruit 3-4 stars at Tennessee knowing they will take 2-3 years to be formidable.....

UCLA offers him an easier path for a tourney run because he wouldn’t have to use lots of travel time for recruiting.

On top of it, If they are throwing him chunks of money, no reason to pass the job up. All while knowing he’s retiring within 5-6 years anyway.

Barnes is a great fit for UT. Like a previous poster said. Not sure he is willing to push the envelope (no pun intended) recruiting well enough to have 3 one and done guys every year. And that’s what most think it will take to win at UCLA. Especially to do it in the amount of time that RB has let coaching. I hope PF doesn’t screw this up though.

Except most of the 4 and 5 star recruits out West are coming to play in the East. No one watches West coast basketball anymore, because they don't come on TV till late at night in most of the country. If you are a big time HS recruit getting money from Nike or Adidas, you're coming to play on the East coast, cause that's where they want you to play for the commerial air time and exposure.

If there was only a Pearl filter, could have 30 minutes of my life back. Can't believe the love this man still gets.
Why shouldn't he get love? What has he done that's sooooooooooo bad that we should hate him here? He didn't do anything to this University, he had a terrible AD in Mike Hamilton at the time of the bbq who didn't back him up or give him any help with the NCAA. Last summer the NCAA wanted to talk to Pearl and the President of the school tried to force his hand, he told them both to shove it and guess what he came out of it looking like a champ. Mike Hamilton was a beta male and a puppet for the Haslam family, who wanted Pearl gone to begin with. I'm not saying Pearl will ever coach at UT again but I guarantee you he would entertain a conversation with Fulmer.

Even accepting that, and I'm not doubting you, Bruce still chose to lie. I still look at it as a situation he created. He shouldn't have had those kids at his bbq, and when confronted with it, he should have just told the truth. Why turn something so trivial into something major? Hamilton may have screwed him, but that doesn't absolve Bruce of his own choices. He could have simply told the truth but made a decision not to.
Pearl had committed the same violation at UWM and was afraid of being smacked as a repeat offender by the NCAA. This is what led him to lie about it in the first place.

UCLA doesn’t have to get every single one. They just need to get 3-5 every year, which is not hard.

Dude. That's a weird association to my posts that (1) Basilio put out his tip jar, (2) trashes Barnes relentlessly, and is first on and off of his band wagon. He's stirs ****. That's my comment. Deal with it.

You’re a whine about Basillio relentlessly. Deal with it.

Well he is the reason everyone is so invested in Basketball program and holds the program to a high standard. He went to the tourney every year here and set the tone for what the program is expected to be.

Not like he was Buzz Or some one hit wonder

IMHO CRB being 64 is exactly why he would not want to subject himself to that meat grinder in So Cal. Seems to me he has built UT's program up where he is getting 4 and 5 stars to either commit as a couple 5 Stars have. If it is all about Benjamins then I guess we will say adios to CRB. In any case this whole thing should be history one way or another by today or tomorrow...if an offer has been made.

UT needs to come up with a lot more money, asap, to convince rick to stay. It will take some huge dollars to beat UCLA.

Per VQ, Barnes has a $5 mil buyout that UCLA is “trying to negotiate downward.” Fulmer plays it smart and holds firm on that? That’s your Butch and Holly buyout.
I swear, if Fulmer budges even a red cent of that $5 million, he needs to be fired. Buyouts exist for reasons just like this.

If Rick Barnes leaves, we can just hire recently retired Belmont coach Rick Byrd. Most of our casual and fb fans wouldn’t even be able to tell a difference tbh

Barnes has all the leverage. At 64, he knows he doesn’t have much time left. How would it hurt him to go to UCLA knowing it’s only for 5-6 years while getting 7-8 million dollars....

All while having easier recruiting and competition.

Also, Tennessee is getting a 5 star here and there. He could multiple 5 stars year in and year out at UCLA while getting 4 stars to fill out the class. That’s not Tennessee’s situation.
