Rick Barnes has emerged as a serious candidate the for UCLA job, reportedly has interviewed

JMO, but just the fact people feel the need to defend him speaks volumes to why he shouldn't be a serious choice. Whether he's personally involved or not, trouble follows him. Why bring that to the university?
It's a dumb conversation to have to begin with. Pearl will never, ever be offered by Tennessee to coach period.

No particular order, just spitballing

Chris Beard (born in the SE, but more of a "Texas boy")
Matt McMahon
Steve Forbes
Casey Alexander
Don't think we have a prayer for Beard, but if A&M/ARK can land who they got there's no reason we should be aiming for coaches from Murray State, ETSU and Lipscomb.

Dude, the Barnes to UCLA thing is real with or without Basillio. The rumor of Barnes displeasure isn’t from TB. GTFOI.

I like how all of your posts seem to get angrier as you read them. The last message of each post seems to be some angry outburst lol. It's like reading messages from my dad when I was in HS, and he had "had enough of my bull****!!"

Could it be that Barnes wants to win a national championship before he retires? Would be easier to win a national championship at UCLA in four years than at Tennessee.

Bingo. Said this earlier. Recruiting would be easy as well.

Signed five 4-5 stars last year and have another 4-5 star kid committed.

He’d be walking into a gold mine.

UT is a great job and I doubt they’ll have any trouble attracting candidates.
Great facilities, great fans. Hell, three of the last four coaches went to the sweet 16.
Football in that same time has sucked.

Dude. That's a weird association to my posts that (1) Basilio put out his tip jar, (2) trashes Barnes relentlessly, and is first on and off of his band wagon. He's stirs ****. That's my comment. Deal with it.

The situation seems pretty dark at this point
Here is my take.

Barnes got a call form UCLA and said sure why not do a formality and hear them out.

They ask him his number and he throws out 7-8 million for sh!ts and giggles and they say “we’ll be back to you but should be able to do that.”

Now Lanier leaves and Barnes has to fill the spot and gets an allowance to find a new coach. Doesn’t like it so calls UCLA back and asks what the update is and they say “yeah we can do 7-8 million” and here we are.

Where is the displeasure rumor from then? Only thing LAT said was that he would likely accept if offered, and considering the fact that it's UCLA that could easily be true without being pissed at Fulmer.

Mussleman wasn't their first choice, and I'm not all that impressed by him TBH.

I think McMahon is a very good coach (I attend Austin Peay so I pay attention to the OVC). He's from TN and was a GA here (not that it's important, but).

And who do you think we should aim for? Easy to criticize but offers no solution....

Lol if this process resemsbels this in any way I would be beyond floored. I've had more formal discussions setting up a yard sale. These are not small organizations we are dealing with here.

Yeah, but hiring him immediately puts us in the bottom tier of the conference.

I think the world of Casey Alexander, but these are names that would have been hired in the SEC is 2009, not 2019.
