Bruce didn't get a show cause for having a bbq. He got a show cause because he refused to admit to a secondary violation and chose to lie, making it a major violation. IF he had simply told the truth, he'd have gotten a slap on the wrist and would have remained the coach at UT. I don't understand why some fans blame the university for choices made by Bruce. UT did not ask him to lie to the NCAA. Bruce decided to do that. Everyone enjoyed the Bruce Pearl era of UT basketball, but it came to an end because of Pearl's own actions. I understand forgiving him, but forgetting??? That, to me, is what's crazy. Not at all considering the “crime”
Especially considering Frank Haith’s punishment, UNC’s fake classes issues, and Pitino sex club issues.
Bruce had a bbq and got the book thrown at him. Everyone could see there was zero consistency with the crime he committed and the punishment he was served among those other issues that actually benefitted each program on the court.
It’s also a relationship driven business and Fulmer was no fan of Mike Hamilton. Any other AD that was competent would have stood by Pearl and they would also know the show cause was a sham. Pearl also stayed in Knoxville until getting Auburn gig. He still knows all the power brokers, including Phil.
The “100% would never happen crowd” is crazy.
