The Atlanta Braves

Needed to trade some of the young arms over the past year and a half.
1) for the players they would’ve brought back and
2) it looks like we’re paralyzed by the idea of letting any of them go and it hamstrung the entire offseason.

I don’t buy that. Seems to me every team is making the exact same low year offer (you might call it collusion) and he’s not biting.

But I’m saying he may have a little more leverage over Atlanta because their need is much more pressing.

Why? By the time he’s ready Folty and Gausman will be back. Bowman has repeatedly said we haven’t talked to Keuchel. He’s. Not. Coming. Here.

I was super high on AA when we hired him but I’ve lost a ton of faith. The Donaldson signing, the terrible bullpen since last year, the lack of balls to pull off a trade with our prospects, plus the Carter Stewart draft pick...(a farm he didn’t built). Taking O’Day contract to give up less prospects. And then keeping crappy players for too long because of “options”. It’s been a bad few months.
I didn't have a problem with signing Donaldson at the time because I still expected them to go after Realmuto, Grandal, Machado and or Harper.

I disagree on 3rd being a position that we didnt need to upgrade. We needed and still do imo power, thats the bedt place to find a bat. Did he overpay for Donaldson a bit imo. But i would rather take a chance on a guy who coukd hit 40 homers than play another meh contact hitter everyday. Yes I know camargo has a good glove but if Donaldson gives us pop its worth it imo

Can you name me the last non DH 33 year old that hit 40 homers?

Its kind of like Kimbrel I think teams have offered him but he is holding out to get the deal he wants. From what ive seen he wants min 3 years and most teams have offered 1 or 2

The sickening thing is that the $9 million is really beside the point. They saw a patchwork bullpen struggle last year and did zero to fix it.

I mean I get not giving Kimbrel a big contract and I thought the pen would actually be fine but Winkler being sent down (which hasn’t been explained 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️) along with Minter and O’Day being injured killed us. And AA doesn’t have the eye that a guy like Wren does to put together a good bullpen.

I hear you.

But let’s see what happens if the young pitchers continue to struggle. We can’t rely on any of them to throw strikes.
