Official Gramps' Memorial Eternal OT Thread

Just walked in the door from a beatdown flight test.

My anniversary is Feb 14. This is the third year in a row I’ve been on the road I believe for my anniversary. Set up flower delivery before I left, she always gets a dozen peach roses on her birthday and our anniversary (protip: 1800flowers works from a sat phone. Learned that almost 20 years ago)

She’s already in bed but my Macallan 15 and another label were waiting on me with cards and her flowers were there too.

She’s a Dim socialist but I love her... and damn my tired ass is dragging... I’m getting too old for this ****...

Hang in there, good buddy.....you can make it last.

3 out of 4 CBS basket ball analysts picked kensucky to beat us tonight...we have won 19 in a row, but they said we havent played a ranked team in 9 weeks and we are complacent...i hope we go in there and do what we have done a couple times this season (lookin at you UGA) and just blow them out on their own floor....slam the door, bolt it shut, then fire the 12 gauge slugs through it and leave no survivors to tell the tale....GOVOLS!!! Biggest game of the year so far!!! Push the blue tears streak to 3 straight damnit!!!

I'm currently watching the baseball Vols. They had the bases loaded & couldn't do a thing. They won their opener yesterday beating Appy St. That's who they're playing now.....going to the top of the 3rd.
It's on the watchespn.com app. Waiting for the NASCAR Xfinity race to start on FS1.

Well, i was wrong, and now i greatly want something that i cant have...all the mustangs that you see advertized these days...not cobras or shelbys GTs, just mustangs...list at 40k naked, about 45 to 50k as shown..always thought that ford was stupid because they priced these cars out of reach for the average guy in order to put insane HP in them.

Just talked to a guy at the store who got a 17 model with 25 miles on it brand new, manual, with 455hp...for 30,499 dollars. With a couple thousand dollat down payment, that is pretty reasonable payment wise...and 455hp is all anyone who isnt racing the damn thing could ever need. He had cool alloy factory rims, and basically no options inside...cloth seats, etc.....i think it has standard power windows, locks, tilt, cruise, and the screen in the middle that has stereo and navigation. That is pretty much my dream car...what i swore to myself in HS i would have one day...back then it was a 93 LX trunk not GT (lighter) that i wanted so badly...highway patrol edition silver with the weight reduction and more powerful engine....this thing makes twice the HP, will run with pretty much anything you can buy for under 80k...and its only 30,000 dollars...

I really, really need to have a midlife crisis and come home from work with 1 of these some day soon...."Honey, youll never guess what happened to me today..."

Yall know any good divorce lawyers in the Charlotte, NC area???

You could get into one for 17-23k provided you're willing to do some work to it.

I came home one day & told my wife "Look honey what I bought for us today". It was a brand new motorcycle.
We hadn't been married for very long & I didn't really think about what I had done. I was with a bunch of friends of mine at the time of this purchase. They were out buying motorcycles that day & I just happen to get caught up w/wanting to be riding motorcycles with the guys. She eventually got over what I had done. She got to where she enjoyed riding on the back on Saturday & Sunday afternoons in the summertime.

I always thought that the notchback 5.0 Fox body was the one to get. It is hard to find one now that hasn't been beat to death.

Having been in 2 bad motorcycle accidents, the 2nd of which left me in and out of a coma for 3 days, compound fractured my leg, took almost half the skin off my back, and tore my rotator cuff in my shoulder.

If i lived way out in the country i would ride one again, and even let my wife ride. As it stands now, my family of 4 is forbidden to get on a bike until and unless i tell them differently. People just don't see or hear bikes...i almost got killed a dozen times besides the 2 wrecks when people or 18 wheelerz just changed lanes over on top of me like i wasnt there...putting me driving on a shoulder 2 feet wide at 80mph...or pull out directly in front of me on city streets...never seeing me at all despite the bright colors and headlight...those stickers say "loud pipes save lives" but i had aftermarket headers and pipe..loud as ****...nobody ever saw or heard me though...and all of this was before smart phones existed. I cant even imagine how bad it is now with texting and driving...suicidal to ride in a city.

Riding a sport bike is 1 of the most fun things i have ever done, though. They pull more Gs in every direction than any roller coaster ever could...and my 8000 dollar rice rocket was faster zero to 60 than an 80,000 dollar Porsche 911 turbo...so nothing was out running me...so much fun. Not worth dying over though.

Wrong color...right car. Love those cars...Highway patrol edition was about 500 lbs lighter and some had a Cleveland 351 instead of the 302.

Yeah, I hear ya loud & clear. I had too many near-death experiences I could want in a lifetime.
The one I remember the most was I was topping a hill @75 mph & a dude pulled out in front of me @ the top of the hill as I was almost there. I was maybe 75-100 ft from him but closing fast. I saw bits & pieces of my life pass before my eyes that day....scared the crap out of me to say the least. It just so happened that nobody was coming from the other side of the road & I went flying around him. I'm sure he saw me as a blur.

72...is this the notchback you were talking about on the right? Where it looked like a trunk from the side but was really a hatchback? I dont like those...i think they were heavier like a GT... the GTs were like 5oo lbs heavier than the LXs from all the glass and plastic body work...then the highway patrol editions were even 500lbs lighter than the LXs because they were stripped down interior etc...and by that time, 351s were hard to find in anything but a ski boat...i think thy were cleveland engines, but by 93 the plant may have been closed and they were actually made in Windsor...not sure. I had always heard the Windsor ones were a different bore and stroke and made more torque for the trucks...the Cleveland ones were for Hp and top end...

Obsessed, you know your mustangs, correct me if i am wrong
I havent owned one...yet...but i will someday if i live long enough.

Edit..note the split rear window on these ones with the hatchback that looks like a trunk from side...the LX trunks had a regular rear window...like in the picture in my other post.

The fastest 5.0 Mustang was the notch back. The special service 5.0 notch backs had a bigger alternator and extra cooling. Might have had a different rear end gear too, 3.08 was standard I think but they might have had 2.73s. I don’t know if they were lighter or not.

So the is the notchback the ones i am thinking that is really a hatchback? The highway patrol here had the true "trunk" version...no hatch...but i had always heard they had 351s instead of 302s...have you ever heard of that? Wonder if NCHP ordered them special like that?

My first car was a 66 mustang 289 four speed. As hard as I tried I couldn't kill it although it almost killed me a few times with faded drum brakes after driving it really hard! I actually sold that car for $200 more than I paid for it after owning it for three years and putting 40k on the odometer.

I drove my mom's 1963 Ford Galaxy back in 1966. Lol, like the one Andy Griffith drove in his TV show.

Almost 100% of the police cars were notchbacks, with a trunk, not a hatchback. The square looking one. With a 5.0 liter, they weighed 3035 pounds. The hatchback weighed 65 more pounds. The GT another 90 over that. None came with a 351. If you saw that, it was added later. The police cars had the Special Service Package, or SSP. It included a reinforced floor pan, higher rated, certified speedometer, inside trunk release, oil cooler, and a couple other things that I can't remember.

No the hatchback is what the GTs were based on. The notch back had a trunk. I’m not aware of a special service hatchback but they could exist I guess. Nor am I aware of a 351 factory LX GT or special service. However it’s easy to drop one in they are both small block Windsor engines. The 383 stoker is a bored and stroked 351. The 347 stroker is a bored and stroked 302. Both Windsor blocks.

Correction I believe the stroked 302 is a 331, 347 could be bored and stroked don’t remember.

I remember those back in the day and although they were faster than most street cars of that era, they were still dogs with low horsepower and crappy handling. Kind of like a guy I used to work with once said about a Vega he had in college... it had a volume control for a throttle.

Wiki says that there were at least 4 SSP hatchbacks sent to the California Highway Patrol in 1982, out of a total of 400 cars.
