Currie would have been fired with cause except it likely puts UT in the crosshairs regarding Schiano. Huge mess.

Butch is the one that gets me since I was certain his contract required him to pursue similar work or lose his buyout.

The buyouts will roll off in the not too distant future and as long as we don't fire Barnes and his Staff or Pruitt and his staff, we will be just fine. Even if/when we get rid of Holly.
There will be an increase in revenue with the Bball team performing like they are and football on the upswing.

I don’t think Holly’s buyout would be much. She’s owed 1/3 what’s left on her contract that runs thru 2022. She currently makes 665,000, so buyout won’t be huge.
Now, on the chicken little stuff as you say, there is no way that the stat of only 9.5 mil left in reserves can be correct. IF it is, it is by far the lowest of any SEC school. You mention 143.55 but didn’t mention the spending of 150 million. Jones’ buyout continues next year, add Holly’s buyout and coaches increased salaries such as another million for an OC. Do you foresee a surplus next year?

Here is a big challenge for all schools, school donations will almost assuredly go down. One of the biggest perks to donating to the athletics department (for rights to tickets) was the fact it was 100% tax deductible and you recouped part of your cost, that no longer exists. You can’t count it any longer so every school expects a big drop. Attendance is continuing to decline, how many games were true sellouts last year? Even schools like Bama are talking about reducing seats, they see the future in attendance and that’s at Bama. Two more years like current,and you have a negative reserve. Up to Phil to turn the ship.

I thnk we will have a good - not great - team this coming season. As long as we can field a competitive team, with hope for the future, I think we can fill the seats. If we replace Holly with someone competent, we will do fine in the top 3 sports, for the foreseeable futue.

THink about those 2 buyouts for bad hires coupled with the AD buyouts. A lot of Benjamins down the tubes.

A lot of schools would have investigated the Crowder deal if for no other reason than to negotiate a lower buyout. Tennessee spends money like a drunk sailor in a whorehouse.

The John Currie hire was the worst hire we have ever made. While he didn't do as much damage as Jones, that was only because his incompetence was discovered sooner, and he was ousted essentially by a social media uprising that was sparked by his attempted hire of Greg Schiano (which was his ONLY candidate). The guy should never have been considered. Ever. Had we only paid him $1, it would have been too much. Hell, had Currie worked for free it would have been a bad deal for us. I don't wish anything bad on the guy, but he should never be allowed to set foot back in Tennessee ever again. Nor should any athletic department anywhere allow him to come within 10 miles of their facilities.

Very little, you may recall that Fulmer put her on a "year to year" contract with an option to renew at the end of each contract period. So if he decides to put the plug on her the cost outlay will be minimal.

I'm not sure why this was considered news-worthy. The deficit was covered with money from the athletic department reserve and there is still $9.5 million left of the reserve. The article implies that the UT athletic department has done something wrong but it actually shows an athletic department that was able to cover a deficit. Why is this news again?

You don't have to worry about Phil he did well for himself. He also got a huge buyout kind of led the charge in that category.

Why in the world would what he’s made as an adult make you assume he must’ve been rich as a child? What am I missing? He’s from Winchester, I seriously doubt his family was wealthy. Also, he’s making north of $750k iirc as AD, he ain’t hurting for cash.
