Okay, for folks creating a poll in the future, here's one key, and basic, idea: make the responses broad enough to give everyone a choice they can agree with. Even if you can only do so by adding "none of the above" at the end.

Otherwise, people are gonna think your poll is dumb, because it doesn't capture their point of view at all.

There was only two answers, either you dislike Tee because he won Peyton's championship OR basically your opinion of Tee has nothing to do with that. Why don't you write a dissertation like you normally do or people will think your post is dumb.

I like both of them for differing reasons. I think it's comical that some make it a Peyton vs Tee contest. Both have done great things for the program and hopefully that continues

Your poll is incoherent. I like Peyton Manning, because he was an all-time great quarterback, who broke many records, and won an SEC championship for our Vols. I like Tee Martin, because he was a very good quarterback, with tons of heart, and helped lead our Vols to a national championship. To think that some people believe that you have to like one but not the other is baffling to me.
So Peyton won his SEC championship by himself and Tee just lead. Still backhanded. Be sure and give your hero ownership of the UF losses too. Since he did everything himself.

I really can't see how anyone can say that the NC Tee won was Peyton's. I find that completely ridiculous but people find ways to rationalize silly things all the time. I'm guilty of that too, just not in case.
c'mon. u know why they say this......

***Because I had a brain fart asking, Is Tee an issue with you because of Peyton?***

It's public and I made it easy. Would like to separate the wheat from the chaff.

Expect folks to hedge, juke, tiptoe, around and mock this question. I doubt you get honest responses. As for myself, yes, I think it's an issue for some fans. The spectrum being among older ones, say those who are 55+. But they'll cite other reasons which are actually reinforcements of their already biased mindsets. Finally, I suggest that since Tee is now back, let's just all hope he proves to be a major cog in the return of the once mighty Vols and leave it at that.

I can see how you thought I meant it that way, but that is not the way I meant it. I should've been more clear.

Peyton was a star, and once-in-a-lifetime quarterback for our team. We was the outright leader, and no one questioned it. We had other great players on the 1997 team (Leonard Little, Al Wilson, Marcus Nash, etc.), but everyone knew Peyton was the face of the program. No, Peyton did not win that SEC championship on his own. The UT defense played amazing against Auburn in the 2nd half. Teams win championships, not individuals, and I shouldn't have implied that Peyton won it by himself.

Coming into 1998, Tee was not expected to fill that role as the face of the program. No one thought he was a Heisman candidate. He had a much different role than Peyton. Tee was not a captain in 1998. He wasn't considered our offensive MVP, that was Jamal Lewis. In fact, the first few games, we had to work around his deficiencies to be successful, and the entire team worked together extremely well to do that. Tee made some huge plays that helped us win games against Syracuse and Florida early on, and I give him credit for that, but it was obvious that our offense had serious problems after the first 4 games. The 2nd half of the season, Tee really started to blossom, and our passing game became more than serviceable, but he still was not the All-American QB that Peyton was. And there's nothing wrong with that. No one should have to apologize for not being as good as Peyton. I loved Tee Martin when he was here. No doubt, he was a leader on our national championship team, and I'm grateful that I got to see it. I am very glad he is back on campus, and I hope he stays a long time and is successful here.

I am 55+ and have NO biased mindset. I am glad we won a NC with Tee at QB. I wish we had a bunch more since then. The fact that I may be older than you has nothing to do with how I feel about anyone, not just players or former players. I watch people and base my opinion of them on their actions. A persons actions will show the real person. Words are cheap and easy to say. Actions require work. Do me a favor don't lump me in with narrow minded folks and I won't lump you in with any group that may be offensive too you.

Tee isn’t an issue. It’s a blessing to have a VFL back in Knoxville and on the staff.

I celebrate both and am happy both played here. I wish Peyton had won an NC and the Heisman but in no way does that affect the equal happiness for Tee winning the NC and frankly I have a really tough time thinking anybody could be petty enough to think differently.

Terribly bad OP IMO.

I don't understand.
I don't either, not going to think about it long enough to form an opinion other than the conversation is ridiculous. We live in a Bipolar world in which we need to create conflict or pit people against each other. Here's a thread title "Peyton Manning welcomes T. Martin home with a celebratory steak dinner" Not nearly as sexy, but left wondering how many people would enjoy the thread. lol.....

Here's the thing, Vol524, YOU aren't every 55+ Vols fan. Here's the other thing, I said it is an issue with SOME Vols fans. Trust me, they aren't your clones and you're not the comic book character Multiple Man. Further, I don't know anyone on VN is named "Some" And doubt there's any such person. After you dismount your high horse, hang up your haughty ego hat, take off your huffed up boot, and read my post the way it was written, maybe you'll understand what I said. You got all defensive about something that wasn't about you personally. In doing so you DID lump me into a category and unfairly to boot. But that's OK because it just isn't very important to me.

Its amazing how the Tee\Peyton connection was made several times in another thread but when people are actually asked their opinions the poll sucks. Of course not reading like the average 8th grader wrote it would have helped.
