Can we lay to rest the...

CJP is a HC now. What does one have to do with the other?

CJP is building a team to compete with the gumps. Seems he figures once we can show them a thing or two the rest of the games will fall in place.

For 2018 we didn’t have enough players doing it the “right way” to muscle thru the back half or our schedule.
What does him being a HC have to do with being one of CFB top defensive minds?

He does pretty good defensively. But im less concerned with that and more concerned with how he will perform as a head coach.
Recruiting is up..credibility is up...win total went up... Not bad for a guy who walked into a complete dumpster fire

I think we did okay defensively. We had several players that developed nicely. We got blown out alot but when you are on the field the whole game that tends to happen.
I had two main concerns with the team this year as it relates to Pruitt being a head coach.
1. The offensive game plan. In most games it didnt even look like we tried to scheme something that would work. He did in two games and it worked. Maybe there were some cupcake games were he did just enough to get by, I dont know so I can only judge what I know. From what I understand he limited Helton. When the game plan opened up, we did well.
2. Motivate of players. Everywhere Pruitt.has been he has had top teir talent. Now he will have to figure out how to get the most out of what he has because Tennessee isnt pulling top tier talent all over the field. I think he struggled in that area this year.

His defensive success is great, but that doesnt always translate to head coaching ability. We have seen many example of people that were just better suited at being coordinators. I dont know if that is the case here, but we should know for sure in the next 2- 3 seasons

We will see, all these arguments ive heard before, yet we remain in a constant state of dumpster fire. There isnt an argument being made here that I didnt hear about Butch Jones.

Regardless, I dont think its good to talk about your team in that manner in a public setting, whether its the whole team or a few individual players.
Got it. It just makes for a better point when you just make $#!+ up that wasnt said

They'd likely win at a higher level than most others with that level of player. Probably the best at playing great with less talent is Urban Meyer. He's done nothing but win no matter where he was at or what level the talent. Morally not the best person but he's a great coach.

That said, UT has had enough talent over the last 5 years that we could have been winning 10/11 games but sadly, Butch was just bad at developing anyone or retaining people.
I'm sure they would. The elite coaches do. But neither are winning without the Joes.

I think it helps him coach our defense better while at the same time being able to come up with plays that are hard to defend based on what type of defense the opponent is running.

Creating mismatches on both sides of the ball.

We need players that study film like it’s a hobby.

From what I could tell we still had the issue of players not using their “free time” property. I expect tht to improve this year.

Butch didn’t recruit the trenches nearly as good enough to compete in our league. All of our lineman came in looking like tight ends from the Midwest. If you don’t see a difference in the two philosophies then I’m not sure what to say

Philosophies dont produce results..

I dont care what he beats them by, I prefer to see solid performances.

Do you think they looked like a solid team in those two games? It's a simple question.

How about this, since you want to attack my position and not state your own. How many games did Pruitts team have a good performance in, regardless of outcome?
I'm smart enough to look at a game like that and realize you dont determine much by scoring margin or whether the QB had a great game on 13 attempts against that opponent.. Had they won by 35 I wouldnt take much more away from that than had they won by 70.

They were sloppy with the ball against UTEP probably the worse of the 2.. That's keeping that game from being 35+ to nothing.

UTEP was a poor performance on offense. It was about par for the course for the defense. UTEP is a really really really bad program. They'd be sub .500 in the FCS division each year. When they have one of their best defensive games in decades against UT's offense, it's pretty hard to find any positives for that side of the ball from that game. It's also a statement about how bad UTEP is when giving up 24 points indicates one of their best defensive games vs a P5 team since the 1960s.

Seen plenty of trash efforts against smaller schools. UMass in 2017 epitomized the reference. Didn’t see that against ETSU or UTEP.

With the possible difference that Butch was a band member that rode the coattails of Brian Kelly's success, while Pruitt was a football player and coached championship level defenses. I'm not declaring Pruitt as the answer until he proves it on the field, but there are some glaring differences between him and Butch.

Cool, so they were sloppy in _ of 11 games this year?

You could say the same with Pruitt. He stepped into great situation everywhere he went, including high school.

Then they’re the same coach. Bye.
