Can we lay to rest the...

Swinney is a very good coach and is amiable to finding someone who can improve his team/staff. His major turning point was hiring Chad Morris, who installed the system they run and turned them into an offensive juggernaut. Morris also was the factor in getting guys like Watson to commit. The new OCs did well learning from Morris and keeping the system rolling. They are also excellent recruiters and the reason guys like Higgins are playing there instead of here. Dabo does well keeping assistants, Morris is his only major defection. Venebles keeps getting mentioned for HC jobs but people keep hiring Saban assistants instead.

Agreed, coaching stability with quality assistant coaches is a key element in Clemson's success. I think Swinney has developed a culture there were the assistant coaches want to stay for a while. I am not sure the same is true at Alabama and it might finally be catching up to them.

On a similar note, if you look at most of the over-performer teams that tend to have recruiting classes outside the top 25, yet end up ranked in the top 10-15 AP poll, like Oklahoma State, Michigan State, TCU, etc, they all have good coaches and established coaching stability.

Clemson proves that coaching matters more than anything else. I'd just about guarantee the last 5 years recruiting was better on average at Florida State, Georgia, USC, Michigan, LSU and Auburn than there.

As for the implication that Bama didn't win this year because they lacked Pruitt, they still had a top 15 defense in the nation and went 14-1. Clemson just had some amazing 5 star freshmen with one of them being a QB who has generational talent

As for how Tennessee did this year, did we look better in the first month of the season or the last month of the season? I'd argue that we looked the same or worse later in the season. Which to me isn't a great sign. But either way, we're here for a few more years with Pruitt at the minimum. I hope he's doing well enough to be the coach here in 10 years, but it's not unreasonable at all to think he and staff didn't do a good job this year considering the nature of the losses we suffered and the fact that we didn't get better over the course of the season. Nothing we do or say on here will keep him from doing his job either.

Coaching matters absolutely.

Dabo ain't making the playoff on the back of 3 star players. For that matter Nick Saban ain't winning 5 NCs in a decade either with em tho.

But he also didnt claim that his comments I posted we re directed toward the entire team? The way you portrayed it.
Regardless, I dont think its good to talk about your team in that manner in a public setting, whether its the whole team or a few individual players.

Yep, and it's the same reason that Florida St, USCw, Georgia and LSU haven't had multiple NCs in the past decade while being loaded with 5* and 4* players.

They dominated 2 inferior opponents. While throwing 29 total passes.

Had Pruitt beat ETSU 80 would he have been a classless ahole?
I dont care what he beats them by, I prefer to see solid performances.

Do you think they looked like a solid team in those two games? It's a simple question.

How about this, since you want to attack my position and not state your own. How many games did Pruitts team have a good performance in, regardless of outcome?

They'd likely win at a higher level than most others with that level of player. Probably the best at playing great with less talent is Urban Meyer. He's done nothing but win no matter where he was at or what level the talent. Morally not the best person but he's a great coach.

That said, UT has had enough talent over the last 5 years that we could have been winning 10/11 games but sadly, Butch was just bad at developing anyone or retaining people.

Why is it you feel the need to change my qoute instead of saying what you want to say?
I'll be blunt. It's because your full of sh!t and I find it amusing.

Why don't you just be honest, say you can't stand Pruitt and you hope, err I mean you think he'll never be successful.

That better?

I dont mind pruitt. I dont think his team performed very well this year, but most good cosches show the most progress in year 2 or 3. So hopefully thats the case here.
I didnt like a few of the comments he made this year about the team but not really a huge deal. Ive never met anyone that I agreed with 100% of the time.

Sorry I question threads that proclaim him great before coaching a game, act like last night's game proved anything related to Tennessee.

Maybe one day we will all agree on every subject posted on here, that should be fun and generate alot of discussion.

Coaching is critical.

It sure helps to have a QB with NFL type talent.

What QB did Kiffin run off to Clemson?

Dooley had Bray and Butch had Dobbs.

I’d like to see what JG could do behind a seasoned line.

So do you honestly believe Pruitt isn’t one of the top defensive minds in CFB?

I’d also love to hear your thoughts on him turning guys like Abernathy & Buchanan into competent football players in less than a year. Something Shoop couldn’t do in two full offseasons

You need elite coaches, constant stability, and great to elite players. We need help in all aspects of those

Too bad the other 83 players were left out.

Honestly, I'm going to give Shoop a pass on his time here.. I know he didn't have the pinacle of talent but I believe he was micromanaged while here...

CJP is a HC now. What does one have to do with the other?

CJP is building a team to compete with the gumps. Seems he figures once we can show them a thing or two the rest of the games will fall in place.

For 2018 we didn’t have enough players doing it the “right way” to muscle thru the back half or our schedule.

While I do also, he couldn’t develop players at all from what I saw. At least not defensive backs
