“It’s easy to dominate with 5 stars at every position” bullcrap that some people love to say when discussing Pruitt’s body of work. Bama’s defense has looked like Swiss cheese with those same players. Matter of fact Pruitt was down pretty much all of his linebackers towards the end of the year last year. We have our football coach, let’s let him coach
Definitely I thought Bama was invincible will never think any team is again.

The Truth is usually some where in the Middle and it's no different for JP, he did some good things his 1st year as HC and he did some bone head things as well.
2019 will answer more questions about his head coaching ability, but let's hope he succeeds, because who wants to go through another Tennessee coaching search.......not me

False.

Pruitt took the worst Tennessee team in history and in year 1:

-Improved the win total, while implementing a new system

-Improved the conference win total by 2 games

-Beat 2 Top 25 teams

-Improved in basically every statistic

-Did all this against a MUCH tougher schedule than the 4-8 team

That’s a good job of coaching, no matter how you spin it.
This all day long!!!! Some people can't see the forest for the trees!!!!!

It's obvious that good coaches don't need 5 star players or a talent advantage at every spot.

Just look at what Vandy and Missouri did to TN to end last season with fewer highly rated players.

I don't think you can lay it to rest, no. But I agree with the OP's premise. I like the idea of good football more than I like the idea of bad football played by extremely talented athletes.

Football is a team sport, but to be fair, there is a lot of room for individual accomplishment. There were a lot of individual accomplishments displayed deep in Alabama's secondary last night.

Bama was due a stinker. The best part about last night is if you get pressure on Tua you have a chance to rattle him. Hurts would of been a better option after halftime i thought. I hope he transfers, just so they don't have that luxury anymore.

I was surprised at how dismal Alabama performed! Lines whipped. Looked slow. Paniced. Poorly coached and prepared. You can’t just line up with 5*’s 3 deep and win? How do you look that bad with all those 5*’s?

I watched about 10 minutes of the game last night. One comment from the talking heads struck me as interesting. The kid number 8 for Clemson (Ross?) did not go to Alabama because of a perceived lack of coaching continuity. I know he is just one player, and this was just one game, but it is interesting.

You can use any argument you want. The fact that his own father commented publicly twice about his poor coaching tells me something. Tennessee was dismal in a number of games against good and poor opponents. Blowouts were commonplace.

Yes, one of my points in a previous post. But, there will be folks who discount that detail. It seems quite significant in any reasonable analysis as something to consider.

He also took two freshmen receivers and turned them into stud DBs, one of which received Freshmen All American honors. Anyone expecting miracles in the first year with new systems on both sides of the ball is asking entirely too much. We will know what we have in 2020 and 21'.
Bama played a lot of 1st year players in their defensive backfield this year. These were highly recruited players like Surtain,etc....They don't seem as polished or as well coached this year as last. This could have something to do with Pruitt no longer coaching defense but also the fact that they are young also. T. Lawrence put the ball on the money for Clemson and on the other hand Clemson's DB's had a great night because they are not only well coached but have played together longer than Bama's DB's.
UT needs a couple more big aggressive DLinemen to have a complete defensive unit capable of playing with the big boys on each and every saturday. I'm sure we have the staff to develop these players. Go Vols !

Clemson's 5* players outperformed last night and they benefited from costly Bama turnovers. Clemson QB and WR's were outstanding.

UT's biggest problem. It is killing the culture and identity of a storied program.

I think that may be part of UT's inability to get a new OC. CJP may be wanting to keep as much of this staff together as he can. Some OC's that are newly hired want to bring in their own coaches. I definitely think continuity is a big plus when UT knows it has a big rebuild moving forward. We likely won't get a wizard or world changer with the hire but let's hope for a consistent, compatibile type that won't run to the next job at the drop of a hat. I also think that the continual coaching changes that take place at Bama year after year are starting to have a negative impact on the teams overall performance. It showed on defense this year but wasn't as noticeable because of their offensive performance until they got shutdown by Clemson last night.

💯 correct, Pruitt would've made the proper adjustments as he did the year before

He didn't even come close to insinuating they were 2-9. He talked about dismal performances in a large percentage of games.

Hes insinuated it the other 59 times hes posted it as well. This one be no different.

You either win or you dont. We had 5 to the good and 7 to the bad this year. They ll put that in the record book.
