“It’s easy to dominate with 5 stars at every position” bullcrap that some people love to say when discussing Pruitt’s body of work. Bama’s defense has looked like Swiss cheese with those same players. Matter of fact Pruitt was down pretty much all of his linebackers towards the end of the year last year. We have our football coach, let’s let him coach

That is an interesting point. Looking at team defense rankings Bama went from 1st in 2017 to 13th in 18'.

Clemson has 5 stars at every position too.

Pruitt.did not do a good coaching job this year. Maybe it improves next year, maybe it doesnt but noone here is stopping him from doing his job.

False.

Pruitt took the worst Tennessee team in history and in year 1:

-Improved the win total, while implementing a new system

-Improved the conference win total by 2 games

-Beat 2 Top 25 teams

-Improved in basically every statistic

-Did all this against a MUCH tougher schedule than the 4-8 team

That’s a good job of coaching, no matter how you spin it.

He also took two freshmen receivers and turned them into stud DBs, one of which received Freshmen All American honors. Anyone expecting miracles in the first year with new systems on both sides of the ball is asking entirely too much. We will know what we have in 2020 and 21'.

He did some great things and he did some not so great things. It balanced out to a good job......considering.

Seems to me he thought he had enough talent to muscle out some wins that as it turned out we didn’t.

The team looked like an unorganized, inmotovated mess in 9 of 11 games.

Once again you have no idea what you're talking about. We beat two top 25 teams. Did we do that with Butch? Nope. Stfu

Were GA and FLA top-25 when they beat both in 2016? I can't remember. Looked it up and yes they were. I would argue they were two better caliber top 25 teams than the ones Pruitt's team beat, but it doesn't matter. In both instances the team instantly negated any goodwill generated by the wins with poor follow-up performances as the seasons progressed. I declare a tie in this battle of mediocrity.

That 2016 roster had the roster to be in Atlanta. Apples to Oranges. But I will concede that in their first years at Tennessee both Pruitt and Jones had pretty much an identical season.

I think you are right. Butch's felt flashier. Pruitt's felt more productive. I don't understand the negative toward CJP. This season taught me he can coach guys up. We would've been bowling if our O-line was just slightly better. Thank God he is an SEC guy. He could've easily coached guys up for a run through just about any other P5 in season 1.

That's what I believe as well. If he would have got the FSU job they would have at least won 9 games this year. They have the opposite problem their O-line is pro-style adjust to the spread and our's is spread adjusting to more pro-style

See post #28 over in the thread below. Over a 4 year recruiting period leading up to last night's game, Bama has recruited nearly twice as many 5* and 4* players as Clemson. You have to recruit well, but you don't have to 'cruit like Goliath to beat Goliath. Clemson settled that issue not once but twice.
A look at team performance vs recruiting quality
