Recruiting Forum Football Talk [RIP 9.3.2019]

So why you here? Most of the posters that didn’t want Mullen here went on the angle that historically he hasn’t been a noted recruiter. Not on Urban’s coaching staffs and not at Mississippi State. I’m sure there are some that don’t respect his X’s and O’s, but they’re in the minority. So as an alleged Vol fan, you like practically every post hating on our current coach, but get bitter and butthurt over any perceived slight to the Gators’? You’re dominating.

Think he’s showing some true colors now. Gave him the benefit of the doubt but he’s not just being a pessimist.

Here I go crapping on something again..

Racing, in any form, is terrible. NASCAR, horse, dog.. @SpringBokVol , dirt bikes, trucks, lawn mowers, dont give a damn. It's awful and pointless to watch.

Carry on.

I like watching Horse Races. Plus if you know what you are doing betting on horse races can be very profitable.

I just think some of the criticism he has received was garbage, or going over mental hurdles to tell us why going 10-3 and top 10 wasn’t a big deal at all and unimpressive(Bass). Id rather view it objectively w/o orange glasses on(same goes for any team/player/coach), but I’m on a UT board so I expect most people to disagree and think I’m insane

I’m also not one of those guys who will hate a player or coach simply because they’re on my rival

My rival is my enemy therefore I hate them. Every player and every coach on my rival is someone I want to fail and fail miserably. Not in life but every time in competition.

If any coach in college basketball deserves a title, it's CRB. Ambassador for the sport while doing it right for decades. His impact on the personal lives of the guys is incredible, all while keeping it real and fun. A big shout out to his staff as well, they are flat getting it done. The T will mean something in the sport for a long time now that CRB decided to be a Vol.

Which is what we are seeking in football. It took a proven HC with a strong support staff, most of whom he brought with him, to turn the basketball program around. Now, in it's 4th season under him, they are elite. It will take at least that long and maybe a year or two longer for CJP to do the same if he gets his staff right. Hence, the angst on taking this long with the OC selection.

But I’ll assume you enjoy sitting in a tree watching the wind blow the leaves on the off chance a squirrel scurries by.

Golf is the greatest game on the planet to personally play. When you fully understand it, it is a wonderful game to watch as well. I guess some have forgotten Tiger mania. What other sport is getting 100,000 volunteers to work around 40 official tournaments (games) and returning $190 million to over 3000 charities around the country in ONE year?

I'm not sure it's a bad move from Swan. The NFL works on a different timeline, it could be late Jan before a HC decision is made depending on candidates on playoff teams. Hiring an OC that late from scratch isn't a great position so might as well force Kliffs hand. It's a bad look if he's a longtime assistant but for someone you just hired it's deserved

OK, so you're running a business, and you hire a guy on a multi-year contract for a good salary. Shortly thereafter, he wants to interview for other jobs.

You've got a business to run, and you need to know -- is he gonna do his job, or leave for a different one? You can't afford to wait around while he interviews and takes his time deciding. You've got external business relationships to build and maintain, and people need to know that they can rely on those. So if you can block his interviews and force him to decide now, you have to do that. Kingsbury's putting Swan in a box where he's got no choice.

If Swan hadn't tried to block the interviews, or get Kingsbury to decide now, he wouldn't have been doing his job.

"The Mandela effect"
a large portion of the world specifically remember Nelson Mandela dying in prison in the late 80s early 90s. Yet he didn't actually die until 2013.

People specifically remember the Monopoly man's monocle but he never had one.

It's "NO, I am your father", not "Luke"

"Magic mirror on the wall", not mirror, mirror.

"Play it, Sam."

I am just not sure he’s a championship coach. I will wait until I see one.

All this Mehlen talk just boils down to the fact that we thought he was our fall back...and in typical Vols fashion, Gators use a loophole to fire Sharkhumper, then swoop in and steal her away while Bahama John's plan B was Schiano. They then proceed to go from 4-8 to 10 wins, while we have to watch, mired in mediocrity. BVS is real.
He was Currie’s first choice and Florida’s third (or second FALLBACK). They fired their HC before we did Butch but really had no head start. They started full court pressing Chip Kelly the same time Currie was approaching Gruden, Mullen, Schiano et al. Which is odd because Kelly had no team to get permission...unless ESPN counts. Time frame boils down to we offered Mullen the job and he WAITED for the Gators to get jilted by two candidates and then jilted us. Currie thought we’d buy Schiano and and had no plan C.
