Could it be Chaney?

Lol 29 ppg is hardly enough, unless our goal is just a bowl game.

Necessary to do what? Make the playoffs?

I did extensive research on playoff teams' scoring margins and found out nearly all have had 15+ PPG margins and most have 20+, to be even somewhat successful in the playoffs (ie, Michigan St and Washington were lower and got embarrassed).

So if we score 29 ppg, that would mean we're going to hold modern offenses to 9 ppg? Only 2011 Bama has done that in the past decade, and that was prior to the big offensive shift. 13 ppg was tops this year.

Only 2 of the last 12 playoff team have averaged below 33 ppg and both got blown out (2018 ND and 2015 Mich St).

I'd say 35 ppg is a safe estimation as to what would be needed, along with an elite D. Fwiw the championship teams this year averaged 48 and 44 ppg. Those are the kinds of offenses we need to get close to. We can't shoot for par.

Well, I'm not sure if you know this or not but we don't exactly have the most talent or developed players. Not to mention that our program has been in turmoil compared to those consistently elite teams. We have to start some where and id gladly take 29.9 right now.

If Pitman goes to bama, Chaney is also a possibility to go. If we wanted Chaney should have already got a contract with him. Has Enos been officially named oc at Bama?
Why is that a “should have”? Chaney’s contract hasn’t OFFICIALLY ended. When is the end of the academic year?

Lol - Chaney was very good. I am starting to think Pruitt’s insistence on keeping his guys (Friend) is impacting hiring.

If he were to come here there would be a good portion of the fan base trashing him. Even though he checks nearly every box required fir a good OC.

I'll be honest, I thought his offenses were productive but "soft". We missed something extra that took us to the next level. If we needed 2 yards in critical situations we never seemed to get them under Chaney. I hated lining up the pistol / shotgun on every damn play too.

Having said that - a huge step change improvement over Botchfense.

Was this 2010? 27 ppg
2011? 20 ppg
2012? 36 ppg - aww yes, this is the cherry you remember. Let's forget before that.

This is what I mean, people remember his good years but seem to ignore his entire resume.

2010--Simms was the starter for more than half the season. Look at the stats after Bray took over.
2011--Our best WR tore his ACL and Bray missed time with a hand injury.

2012--Healthy QB and WR core for entire season and our offense was near the top of the conference. If Dooley had hired anyone other than Fat Sal he might have earned 2-3 more years.

Big red flag is that Chaney was a contributor to those putrid Dooley recruiting classes. I don't think UGA relies on Chaney as a recruiter and let's him slide because Pittman overachieves on that front. We have to have the horses no matter who the OC is. Chaney without Pittman seems like half a coach and I would not even think about hiring Chaney if Pittman doesn't come with him.

Chaney was the last time Tennessee had an above average group of receivers and I thought he did well with Tyler Bray.

Mediocre resume, so not that excited, but we could do a lot worse. Just hate hes married to pro style QBs and lack of tempo. 0 innovation. Good enough to get us relevant but not over the hump

How do we know that wasn’t directed by Smart? It’s clear he makes boneheaded decisions so not adjusting his offense game plan could also be on him

Your new OC will be announced this coming Tuesday.

My only issue with Chaney is I feel like when things don't go as planned he goes all pass. Slinging every down making us one dimensional.

Jim Chaney is the only undefeated Head Coach in Tennessee football history. His record as head coach has him at the top with 100 percent winning percentage! True stat and can't beat that......

I think Chaney stays at UGA and they'd be very stupid to let him go. I'd love for him to come back to Knoxville though.....

UGA overachieved this year in my opinion based on all the players they lost after last season. They lost to Texas because the players were still crying about not making the play-off and cared less about playing Texas in New Orleans.

They were the only team that had Bama beat, once again, and blew it....
