I guess some of my frustration is that the timing of a hire does not guarantee it’s a good or bad hire.

So while we’re sitting around waiting for Pruitt to decide what he wants, it does not guarantee he’ll make a good hire. Just like hiring a day into the search doesn’t guarantee it’s a good hire.

But what it does is allow the candidate pool to dwindle. And that could end up being a problem at the end of this thing.
Its a mighty deep pool dawg.

i'll buy that. at least this is honest. it's just the unknown that's worriesome. agreed.

We were in negotiations with yurcich. You know he’s interested in Ohio state...maybe we could’be sweetened our deal to him. I said maybe we could’ve or not but we entered negotiations with him and struck out. Either way you’re 0-1 from that regard.
Assuming that is legit (Im not sold), that in no way means UT "let" him do anything.

Waiting at this point if you don’t have too doesn’t make sense. When players get back from break, meetings will happen every day with different personnel groups, unless the OC is already in those meetings.
Terminology and scheme will change some with a new OC. JMO, I think this is why some media are saying it will be wrapped up by the end of dead period.

I wouldn't call it blind faith to wait to see who he hires before criticizing the hire. Benefit of the doubt maybe. But just because he hasn't hired anyone yet doesn't mean he's doing a bad job with the search. You praised the Oklahoma hire which at this point took a month and a half longer than ours has. Maybe you didn't realize that actually is a really good counter to yer narrative.

Oklahoma just finished playing. They definitely weren’t in full search mode like we were for as long if even searching at all until after their season ended. I’m also in no way saying we can’t end up with a good hire but the way this is going is looking like a combination of maybe Pruitt is really indecisive, people aren’t sure about working under him, admin/AD are struggling through negotiations, etc.

I'm not saying it has been an efficient search or that we should feel great about it. But we have a rookie HC facing a steep learning curve who's feeling his way. He made a mistake with his first OC, got bailed out and needs to get it right the second time. His offensive philosophy seems to be shifting-- and that's a good thing. He needs to figure out what he wants before he can hire the right guy to execute it. And to be the right guy, the new guy needs to integrate seamlessly into an established staff without being Shooped.

And yeah, when you hire a coordinator as a first-time HC at a program like UT, there's going to be growing pains. And when you throw him into the deep end of a rebuild....

I appreciate you engaging in good faith and not mistaking me for Catbone.

I've always had the sense that Pruitt was way more of a pure football coach and salesman than a program manager, but had hoped he had picked up some of that from his time with Saban. This search has made me somewhat nervous that he still has a lot to learn in that respect.
