Good post

I content we want Bama to win because it adds to the chances Saban hangs up the whistle but other than that gambling is the only good reason to have significant interest
If he had to sign in blood that hed quit after winning it this year, I might be for it. But I dont see him doing it. He has an automatic championship this year and next year with Tua as QB. Probably could win another 4 or 5 if he coached 8 more years.

BAMA is BAMA whether Nick gets closer to retiring or not those recruiting battles are always hard. Clemson, OTOH, doesn't need anymore trophies. We NEED to be able to take what we want from the Carolinas and keep Dabo the hell out of Tennessee. So, once again, I'll root for Bama to win but it's still a lousy matchup. CFB is turning into the LVs vs UCONN every year and while that was needed for a sport in it's infancy, for one that has over 150 years behind it, it's a terrible thing.

Sports become rather pointless when the competitive field becomes this small.

Smith would have flourished with any line. Nate Newtons are available every year.
Except he didn't, hell he never reached 1400 yards in a season after 26. Smith is great because he was productive until 35 which is extremely rare for RBs.

Granted his last 4 seasons we're garbage numbers... didn't even manage 4 YPC. Meanwhile Dallas continued to rush for 1700+ a season until 2012 when Murray was hurt and their production tanked. It was a good/great line. The NFL game was transitioning to RBBC when Smith was on his way out. Team stats for rushing in Dallas didn't fall by much in his absence, even with plenty of garbage no name backs present.

Barry went over 2k in his 9th season. And the Lions still haven't recovered a suitable rushing game since.

Nobody thinks anybody is good enough here on Volnation whether it is coaches, players, cheer leaders etc.
It has nothing to do with how good I think they are. I think they’re both very good.

I don’t think either one will put up with a meddling HC. And I don’t want to hire someone just to hire someone else next year.

Hey me too! 50 in October! Those extra months must have been hell on ya! Arguing wrong thing. Barry would have been dynamic in any offense...but less so when he couldn’t improvise. Big part of his greatness was letting him loose. Waiting for his blocks to develop and settling for 5 instead of 23 would have worn him down.
Y’all old

Trust me, I really am thinking about that.

I understand -- but I just love being at the game with 100,000 of my closest friends, :)
the bands, the players running through the T, the excitement that's palatable...the roars, the groans, the chills when the entire stadium is silent, the chills when the entire stadium sings Rocky Top...priceless to me.

Outside of Bama and Clemson fans, does anybody really care who wins the NC this year? ESPN and the Bama Network can talk it up 24/7, but nothing about it is must-see TV.
Probably won’t even watch. I tuned in for the last few minutes of last year as I saw that the drama was building on Twitter, but I haven’t really watched a NC game since Oregon/OSU, because Alabama and Clemson are my least two favorite teams. Just not compelling enough for me to invest my time to see one of those sh-tholes crowned.

You say average talent, I say Emmitt was rarely touched until he got to the third level. He knew how to hit a hole quickly and get upfield, but that was because there was nothing there to juke. Emmitt was a good rb who was made great by the line in front of him. Period.
They worked great as a unit...tailored to Emmitt’s skills. Only athletic superstars were Erik Williams before the car accident and Larry Allen later on. Rest were former DL like Tuinei, overweight journeymen like Newton, underweight average like Mark Stepnoski and Plan B free agents like Kevin Gogan. Jimmy envisioned what he wanted and cobbled them together. If it hadn’t been these same guys it would have been others. Centering the whole attack around Emmitt and leaning on the opposing defense until it tired out and Aikman, Irvin, Harper et al tore the rest apart. They accomplished what Jimmy designed and deserve the praise. They opened the holes and Emmitt tirelessly exploited them over and over during the game. If they hadn’t, Jimmy would have gotten guys that could. They did a pretty good job protecting Troy but not before he became the poster child of concussions and had a video game mocking that. They weren’t this force of nature without Emmitt. So the fallacy that he was crap without them is bs. It’s the opposite.

I don't think we need to move to an 8-team playoff. Stay at 4. I don't care what the FCS does. Like you said, when you do that you water it down. Unlike you I think the Natty is important. I also think the conference championship is important as well. But, it is hard to get excited for it when it is the same song and dance every year.
We can't find 4 competitive teams yet folks still want to go to 8 teams or more...

yeah, is there really any debate on which back played on the better team overall? lol.

DAllas wasn't Dallas soley because of Emmit Smith. it was definitely the sum of the parts. and they were all GREAT parts.
Never said solely. Main component tho.

It will probably be Clemson and Bama next year too. Clemson is returning pretty much everyone on offense and almost all their skill guys are currently FR or SO’s.

They return almost everyone on D minus the DL, but they are loaded there with Xavier Thomas, Juston Foster, and others.

You have no idea if Pruitt is a meddling coach or not. Half the time you post, you're talking out your ass; always, with subtle shots at Pruitt and everything he does. Give it a rest, dude.

The two team dominance will end at some point. Also, I heard a local radio guy say "why don't people want to watch more football?"

I am ok either way. Just want our program to get better.

How would Villanova ever have had a chance to beat Georgetown with that mindset. Occasionally a David beats a Goliath. That is why I watch... for the improbable, which is why I love sports... It's like a Lighthouse of hope, most times you drown tho

All the other football divisions have a larger playoff

That same line didn’t go to 2012. When did Tuinei die? And I dispute this rushing greatness before that. His last few seasons in Dallas were yard add ons to reach Payton’s record and they weren’t exactly piling up. Team had started teetering under Switzer and fell by the time Gailey was fired. “Didn’t fall off much”? Didn’t need to.
