You saw some highlights and formed a narrative. It was the run and shoot. Holding blocks while your guy dances behind you was the science of it. Sanders was great but playoff games like against the Packers where he ended up with negative yards? Not in the highlights.

His playoff numbers save the win over the Cowboys we're disappointing for sure, I really wish he had gotten to play for a better team. I recall buzz about the 49ers wanting him near the end of his career, what a fit that could have been. He might have played another 3-4 seasons and won a ring.

Anybody who doesn't give the 90's Cowboys O Line props as one of the greatest of all time needs to take their Emmitt souvenir shades off.
It was a great unit...formed with average talent. That performed great because it fit Emmitt. Jimmy Johnson knew what he wanted on that line and he got it from different avenues in those first couple of training camp laboratories. It gelled when Emmitt arrived...no coincidence. And I’m not a fan of the person. He’s an egomaniac and a horrible television personality...good dancer tho.

Might have been able to utilize him in the passing game. Tho that didn’t seem to be a strength.

with the time that this OC search is taking, people will be expecting a good hire....a homerun hire. Anything less would be total meltdown for the fan base. I don't know what the thought process was...the optics don't look very good.
How are the acoustics, or the olfactories of the process?

That's true even with guys who just stand in the pocket though. I mean he's the human joystick, you gotta let him run. But yeah, that's probably too many carries and I would guess that will start to swing as they get more comfortable with trusting him to throw more.
Hopefully, I'd like to see him closer to Wilson. Who I argue is the best dual threat guy in the NFL right now. About 75-100 carries over a full season. Still managing to average 500+ rushing each year.

Jackson would have bigger runs cause he's more dynamic than Wilson, but if he could hit the 3600+ passing yards Wilson gets he'd have an impressive career I think.

Wilson is the most underrated QB in the nfl imo. He’s lasted through Seattle’s offensive line struggles, mediocre weapons, and a inflated defense. He’s that whole offense.

You say average talent, I say Emmitt was rarely touched until he got to the third level. He knew how to hit a hole quickly and get upfield, but that was because there was nothing there to juke. Emmitt was a good rb who was made great by the line in front of him. Period.

SMH..somebody was in his face as soon as the ball was hiked all the time. If not for his "freestyle" talent he would have gotten killed.
I remember reading an article a long time ago where someone did an analysis of when Sanders got touched first to when Emmitt did. was something like -1 for sanders and 3 yards beyond line of scrimmage for Smith, but they had the same rushing totals for the season

It’s definitely due to location. California is expensive. You literally have to have money to make it to this game and be able to stay the night, book flights, pay for food, etc. Easily $1,000 for 2 people just to get a hotel and eat, not including flight and game ticket costs. That is just out of reach for a normal person. I’d say the cost to go to that game would be roughly 3k for 2 people for just one night.

It’s both. Have a couple of teams that are hungry and new and the fan base is more likely to drop the money if they see it as a once in a lifetime or even once in a decade event. When the same fans have been there the last 4 years and know they can punch tickets again for next year, it isn’t worth the trip across the country.

the defense rests.

To be fair, Dallas & Detriot had two different rushing styles as well.

Smith benefited from having a good offensive line and fullback. As well as a passing game that was solid.

I don't know that Sanders style would have fit what Dallas did, but I am certain Smith with the Lions would have suffered more.

His OL sucked..I am f'n 50 years old. I watched the games, not just the highlites. If Barry hadn't played in that garbage offense no telling how many yards he would have had.

It really is a crazy take, I have never heard anyone poo-poo that OL before...I remember all those games and the holes you drive a semi through. Talk about revisionist history...that is some cold war era Soviet propaganda revisionism right there.
Your use of the word “poo-poo” gets you some crazy points yourself! Never disparaged that OL. It was a great unit...BUILT for Emmitt. Wasn’t great without him. Point out in the textbook where I’m wrong. While you search, let me ask why HOLES that you remember from history get bigger and bigger? Started out with blind men...now semi’s. Next 747’s and blue whales? 😉

Smith would have flourished with any line. Nate Newtons are available every year.

yeah, is there really any debate on which back played on the better team overall? lol.

DAllas wasn't Dallas soley because of Emmit Smith. it was definitely the sum of the parts. and they were all GREAT parts.

Sanders style fit Ok state previously, alot like the Cowboys style that Emmitt enjoyed, Detroit had Herman Moore for help, that was it

I remember that.

Hey me too! 50 in October! Those extra months must have been hell on ya! Arguing wrong thing. Barry would have been dynamic in any offense...but less so when he couldn’t improvise. Big part of his greatness was letting him loose. Waiting for his blocks to develop and settling for 5 instead of 23 would have worn him down.

I think one thing about Emmitt was truly outstanding, his ability to shade left or right just a split second before being hit, and fall forward for another 2 or 3 yards, and still not get lit up by a safety coming in hot to take his head off. Smart back who ensured his own durability

Sanders or Bo Jackson for me tho

IMO and maybe I’m old school, but I view college football on a regional scale. The Natty is just a novelty unlike the Super Bowl which is a limited # of professional teams all dealing to make it to that game.

To me, the conference championship is the prize and should always be. There are too many teams. Playoffs are watering it down. I enjoyed the games even if they were blowouts but we would get those with bowl season anyway.

I just don’t like these playoffs. It’s incongruent.

I don't think we need to move to an 8-team playoff. Stay at 4. I don't care what the FCS does. Like you said, when you do that you water it down. Unlike you I think the Natty is important. I also think the conference championship is important as well. But, it is hard to get excited for it when it is the same song and dance every year.
