Just my opinion but I think whoever it is will definitely be upgrading over their current job and getting a significant raise.

This isn’t the job you take if you’re set somewhere where it might be considered a lateral move.

Yep I would agree, and that would be a major red flag for Pruitt. Would it be because of him, Friend, or JG and the oline? Could that be the source of his “overrated” comment? Maybe he was irritated by the process? I hope he hires a great one and maybe Friend can be great

If you mean everything about our struggles on the field, sure. Every single part about searches was loose factoids mixed with pure speculation.
Odd given the title was literally "the reality" of the search.

yeah, that's basically it. i do think there's some perception issues from us as fans looking at this program thru orange colored glasses. i don't think this program is as desireable as it may have been 10 years ago. the roster isn't very good, and it's not set up for instant success, for a player or coach. that i agree with. i also agree with the notion that you could say the way pruitt has condicted this search, he's fishing in some really shallow waters, given all the "constraints" he listed regarding the OC candidate pruitt is supposedly looking for.

i heard Will West on the radio today talking about a lot of the same stuff, as if it were absolute fact, and it was absoliutely annoying.

neither of them, rutherford or west, really even acknowledged what other possibilities exist, and their liklihood given the very little that is actually known about how this search has gone.

He was about 10 years before my time, but I saw Sweetness and Barry Sanders almost every Sunday. They were an absolute joy to watch. I think Dickerson is under-rated also.

Yeah, Dickerson was special. Craig James said on the 30 for 30, Pony Excess, that once Eric figured out he could run over people just as easily as he out ran 'em, it was over with for the defense

Darren McFadden was probably the best rb I have had the pleasure of seeing in person. He was literally the only offense they had and most teams still couldn’t stop him. It’s a shame he had to play for Houston Nutt

I, absolutely love Charlie Garner at UT. He only played 2 seasons here because he was a JUCO, but had over 2000 yards in rushing in those 2 years, not counting bowl games and sharing carries with Little Man and Hayden. Amazing

But like, imagine him in New Orleans' system like AK or LA/Gurley. Garner was a little more bowling ball-ish than pure elusiveness, but damn damn damn. I love that so many backs are catching it out of the backfield now.. 16 years ago, it was just RB's up the A gap, B gap, or sweep.

This isn't about Friend. It's about coming to be the leader for 1/2 of our program with 0 choice in who you are leading. Oh and one of those guys just might be a former OC that is best friends with the HC.

I'd say the better analogy is being asked to blind date a gal with a group of people you've never met.

Hence the speculation on why it will be someone Pruitt knows.

Yeah, we definitely aren't sitting at the top looking down to take what we want, unquestioned.
But that article was just "let's take the worst scenarios possible from our on field struggles and pretend those are facts".

Heck, I didn't think Pruitt would assemble the staff of recruiters and experience that he did to begin with. Giving him the b.o.t.d. until given a reason not to.

Yeah, Garner would be perfect for both those offenses. It's probably debatable, but Garner may have had the 2nd best career in the NFL of any former UT running back behind Jamal Lewis. Btw, I have a rant why Jamal should be in the NFL HoF, but want unleash it again today

I misunderstood you in my 1st response, and didn't realize you meant as an OC. It's been said on here he doesn't want the job so I just assumed that was closed

I don't necessarily care if we promote Friend or Osovet except we could have done that a month ago and hired another great position coach. I will be less confident in those hires.

Not trying to defend Will West or Rutherford necessarily, but do you ever wonder why there’s so many “insiders” on this board? It’s because people love to talk.

I know some of the Fox Sports Knoxville guys pretty well. You’d be amazed at how much those guys “hear” from connected people.

Knoxville is small town and the only show in town is the university. Everyone wants their connection to the program to be known by media guys and the fan base at large.

Me too. Like I said, just the nuts and bolts... And I don't worry about Pruitt settling. I think it's probably obvious we didn't get our first choice. That doesn't mean we won't get a good coach.

Yeah, but the simplest answer is always the truth. This job isn’t unique to other jobs around the country like we want it to be. When something takes 40 days and other places got it done in days. It’s because there are issues behind the scenes.

Every single time we have a search of any magnitude we all convince ourselves there’s a master plan and everything is fine because the new guy (Dave Hart, Dooley, Butch, Currie, Fulmer, Pruitt, etc.) is in charge and they’re way better than the last guy! The truth is that there are very few secrets in this game.

Yurcich IMO. I think it's why he turned us down too. 200k-300k isn't worth a Helton or Shoop level hit to your resume.

I think Sark also if he gets a comparable NFL gig.

That’s why Hubbs and Hyams are so good. They get multiple sources saying the same thing before they run with anything. I know Hyams took a hit on the Brohm stuff but he explained it, owned it, and still has a pretty high batting average.

Yurcich is the only one that can even be argued but getting a 500k+ raise is an upgrade imo

Sark is fired and if it's Chaney it's because Smart wants him out imo.
